Is great background really expensive to produce? It feel like such an easy way to make a show much more interesting. Boring exposition scene? Here's some panning shoot of gorgeous background, much better than A/B shoot over and over again, and seems much cheaper to do than animating business.

Laid back camp showed just how much great background bring to a show. It let a show slow down without feeling boring. And it doesn't just have to be nature shoot, just about any location works.

The fan service isn't too bothersome since there's no scene that exist just for that ("Oh no, I feel on her while she was in bathrobe!"), but I did think that the character model where thicker than usual, which I always associate with fan service heavy show. I don't mind too much because it does make it a bit refreshing to have a slightly different art style.

Oh hey geology, right, humm. Its kinda cool to have something that's not sport or music in the CGDCT genre. I'm still waiting for them to try and make a tax business CGDCT show, just for the sheer flex of doing it (just need good background).

As expected of the masters behind Mushoku Tensei and Onimai, Studio Bind captured the manga's designs and sexiness wonderfully and even adds to it. An artist need no reason to draw beautiful women, but if they did then surely a show about precious minerals and gemstones that shine with dazzling beauty in the sun would find companionship if the ladies had similar brilliant radiance to bestow upon our eyes. Beauty of bother mineral and biological for the viewer and highlight's the mangaka's passion for the beauty that lies in our world wonderfully. Impeccable adaption so far.

I haven't made it beyond the first episode yet because I'm still not sure how I feel about the dumb fanservice.

Really enjoying this so far. I took a course on gemstones during college (fulfilled a required science elective but was really interesting) so bringing back a lot of things I'd forgotten.
As for the fan-service this is a show about geology. Not everyone's gonna be be willing to check it out just for the rocks. The girls in YuruCamp are all cute but eventually you forget about that and just enjoy the camping and the food.

This has been my surprise of the season. Whenever Studio Bind wants to make a mineral (mundane or not) look mouth-wateringly valuable, they spare no expense. The fluorite in episode 3 looked downright ethereal. Even the non-mineralogy elements are given lavish treatment. Half of every episode has had the cast traipsing through gorgeously visualized forests that go neck-and-neck with the backgrounds of Non Non Biyori, and that was a series whose entire draw lay around inhabiting a fantasized countryside.

The character animation is no slouch either, and competes with the A-class nature visuals by adding stylistic micro-expressions to characters at key moments. Ruri herself has been the star in this; all episodes thus far have featured moments where she gets to put her expressiveness on full display.

As much as has been made of the horniness driving the character designs, I actually picked this up because it was uniquely tame. Yeah there's a good few male gaze shots, but fanservice typically sinks a series for me when it breaks my immersion. Either through excessive outfits, conspicuously-rude character behavior, or scenes that stick out like a sore thumb. What the kids might call 'cringe'. There's been none of that here; Nagi's outfit is sensual but practical, and doesn't detract from the authentic coolness that I'd expect of a grad student protagonist (more of these please, Mr. Anime!)

Really, my only criticism so far is that Ruri is allegedly fifteen+, but looks like a twelve-year-old and acts like a nine-year-old. Bit jarring, especially when she's alongside her classmates.

Do we need to relitigate the ethics of fanservice every season? Ultimately I'm glad productions like the ones at Sudio Bind can charge up an adaptation with a new layer of sex appeal.

It's not so much a matter of expense as it is skill and time. With the content mill of anime production only becoming more hectic over time as more has to be produced, there is proportionally a greater demand for shortcuts like slapping photoshop filters onto google searched photos and calling it a day. And as that keeps happening, more and more people subsequently lose access to the technical knowledge required for good background work

But that's the appeal of this team's work broadly, that Shingo Fujii has brought together a team of perverts who still maintain that technical know-how. And that's not a pejorative; with a show that's so focused on fieldwork and the wonders of discovery within the natural world, the character animation needs to impart a feeling of weight and bodily movement that can only come from people horny enough to minutely master the little touches about the human body

I'm liking the gem and science side of this ok. I don't mind the fan service, except that Nagi seems to be missing a couple of vertebrae and ribs to end up with such a short torso, and it makes me uncomfortable wondering how she breathes deeply enough to go hiking.

Ruri, though, is too much. Nagi has the patience of a saint putting up with her. When Ruri's gold fever took hold and she had the gall to accuse Nagi of conspiring to steal from her, had I been in Nagi's shoes, Ruri could've found her own way home from that mountain. She's gotten a little better, but she still is close to making me drop this, as much as I like the rest of it.

They made a big point of how the mine should've been properly closed off when it was shut down. Ironically, they were lucky it was not, or they would've had a hard time getting out after falling through the ceiling.

Anybody would think that people would get smarter over time, but looks like your average anime watcher doesn't, using Google to search for a name it's too much of a hassle (Shingo Fujii), looks like it's way faster just being dumb and write about "fanservice" like it's something new.

Ruri Rocks: You can see that the director has an eye for detail, each "rock" has impressive texture work.

I wonder if some people believe if they keep raising complaints about the presence of fanservice in anime they can convince Japanese creators to stop doing it. Or perhaps it's for their own sake they have to repeatedly voice their displeasure for it before watching any show to let their peers know they do not approve of the sexualization of women less they be accused of something or ostracized from the community they habituate.

I would not classify Nagi as "thicc" in the way the word is used in America. She's just curvy like any any other big buxom anime character.

For the show itself Studio Bind delivers what they are known for and I am very happy so far.

Can we not ship people in this...there's no romance in this type of show and why does every time two girls share screen time they have to be shipped together... Shipping ruins everything.

Do you want to go there? Because I am all in for Nagi's character design to add a wider back, deeper chest and lets add some meat to those arms so she can crack bigger rocks *guhehe* *guhehe* If you can't image her, say no further, AI can flesh her out >: )

IMO Ruri Rocks probes that Studio Bind is up there with Doga Kobo in the anime studio category of taking little known material and sharpening it into precious gems Very Happy

I wasn't asking for her to be wider or fleshier, just have a little more vertical length between her waist and her chest. Give her some room to breathe. I don't care if you wanna make her broader or bulkier after that.

*pushes glasses back with finger* There seems to be a basic misconception, Miss Gina. People have been comparing Nagi Arato with Sakaki (in steroids!) from Azumanga Daioh, lets start there:

spoiler[]

As you can see their proportions are similar, but no one ever complained Sakaki had problems breathing, so the culprit is not the body proportions, but Nagi's tight fitting blue jeans! It is plain to see her's do not end on her wait, but go higher right before her torax starts, So yeah, with such clothing she would he hard pressed to do abdominal breathing, but she can do thoracic breathing, if overexerting herself she just needs to fully expand her thorax *nosebleeds* sorry, my mind eye is too colorful, Maybe her pants have some kind of elastic on the sides that easily stretch to let her torax expand freely? Just did a quick google and there seems to be such thing irl. There is no doubt that carrying heavy rocks make Nagi have a fit body and IMO she is not afraid to "flaunt the goods", she no doubt can take down your average punk with ease.
