Lovely. I especially like the part about expanding employee scope. The good ol' do more with less.
And I'm not even surprised that this is coming in the same memo about engineering hubs (whatever those might be). It's gotten so common to simultaneously say that a company needs to do layoffs while it also puts that money into technology. |

I'm not sure if it's possible for that memo from Purini to contain any more empty platitudes and mealy-mouthed corpo-speak than it already does, though I'm sure he could find a way.

Funny how Crunchyroll is looking to expand its presence here in México, where around two years ago they laid off part of the staff, including the Ryuin the lead of the PR team which practically increased the reach of the brand back in 2015. Will see how this goes.

Pretty sure that's just saying "we're gonna do AI but we know most of our customer base won't like that so we're gonna hide it in this language and hope nobody asks too many questions" In short,

So Crunchyroll has somehow enough money to get Channing Tatum for a stunt casting role for Demon Slayer film, yet they somehow they made this announcement about layoffs.
Am I reading that right? |

While I'm not defending Crunchyroll in regards to this recent layoffs, I believe someone mentioned in yesterday's article about Channing Tatum's participation in Demon Slayer's dub that KnY's dub itself is actually handled directly by Aniplex, not Crunchyroll themselves who are mostly involved in the distribution and in the marketing. And technically both Crunchyroll and Aniplex are owned by Sony, but they operate separately from each other if I'm not mistaken. I mean, back in late May, Aniplex announced at an important pop culture convention in Mexico that they're planning in dubbing into Neutral Spanish themselves some old anime titles like Gurren Lagann, Fate/Zero and Madoka Magica without CR's involvement. |

It doesn't matter who commissioned the dub. Since Sony owned Aniplex and Crunchyroll, it's really reckless for them to do a stunt casting and announced layoff when they had that much money and the resources to not do these layoffs. |

That is indeed how I read it. They're twisting their arse over backwards to try and scrub this release clean, hopefully the fansubs pick up the slack. |

Remember when the biggest domestic anime distributors were run by fans instead of massive bloated corporate ghouls? Good times. |

This news after just a day after announcing that they would be in Delta Airlines and announcing Andrew Tatum for a role in Demon Slayer.
So, is the company doing well or not? I'm getting mixed messages. |

Funny, my fist thought after “improving the fan experience” line was “how bout less crappy AI translations?”, but this is clearly headed in the complete opposite direction.

A company announcing layoffs doesn't mean that it's running out of money. It just means that management believes it can make more money without those positions. Time will tell if they're right.
