Oh my goodness, I know the actor, but not from the live-action Crying Freeman. But I know him from the James Bond film, Goldeneye. He played the Russian defense minister and I'll use this scene right here and this one from the movie just in case if any ANN forumite that aren't 007 fans.
That's very sad to see him pass away. RIP!!!

My memory of him is as Fouchet, the main antagonist in the first Bad Boys movie, a role he handled very well...
