Fictional BDSM can be so tough to get right because it is almost always done by someone with an interest in writing stories first and foremost who also enjoys BDSM as a topic, but very rarely has personal experience in all the nuances that go into it (at least judging by decisions like deciding on a safe word after doing some complex scenes). I wouldn't even mind it being less realistic if people were more familiar, but because so many people know the surface level practices without the nuance and safety measures involved it can make BDSM seem dangerous to the uninitiated.

That being said I still appreciate stories that aren't perfect, I just hope they will be easier to enjoy once people understand the topic better and I don't worry people will assume it's the reality. I don't mind the stories being more fantastic and less realistic, in fact I tend to prefer consuming fantastic BDSM adjacent material because in a fantastic scenario I am less bothered by the lack of safety precautions when they are a magically enhanced being or the BDSM is subtext rather than relating their dangerous or antagonistic behavior to actual practice.

I don't mean to complain too much though, the story sounds lovely and like a great exploration of the emotional side of kink and how you negotiate the subject! I am just interested in the topic and I hope someday people will understand the practice better so that at least safe words and pre scene discussions are normal parts of the more realistic fiction.

If the manga isn't intended to be a manual on kink, I think it's okay to give some leeway for a piece of entertainment to portray things unrealistically. Also, as someone who would probably also be self-conscious about indulging someone's humiliation kink, shibari would be much easier for me to embrace as well. ^^;

I am not a fan of how often BDSM literature gets docked points for "irresponsible behavior". It's a story, not a guide. Characters have flaws and conflict occurs. That's what makes a story engaging.
