The premiere was not bad but I can not call it good either. I was hoping for something like Interviews with Monster Girls but the charm is simply not there at all as of yet. It also does not help that a certain bunny girl is a tad annoying and that Rei has all the charisma of a rock. I will watch a bit more because the premise could be interesting but a strong start it is not. |

Agreed, Mr. smurky turkey, Esq. But I kind of dug it even though the comedic element was low. Cute animal girls can carry me a certain distance, but I wouldn't say this is an obvious keeper, that's for sure.

I tried this one reluctantly, just to be a completionist (I still haven't gotten around to four other new ones yet), but 7 minutes in I thought maybe I'd gotten the anime all wrong. I'm a sucker for urbanites getting tossed into quirky rural settings - Northern Exposure is one of my favorite non-anime shows of all time by way of reference. I'm also a sucker for shows about new starts and second chances.
But then the show failed to capitalize on any of the potential I saw in the set-up once the class started. In fact, it mostly irritated me. I didn't like it when the MC assumed that demi-human meant non-human, totally avoiding questions about sentience and what humanity really is which doesn't bode well considering the subject matter of the anime. And I didn't like it when the MC unloaded his own issues on the class, telling a bunch of impressionable young idealists how humanity was a rotten cesspool with no redeeming qualities and so on. Cautioning them not to be too unrealistic is one thing. A grown man using kids for a therapy session is another. It's not like those are deal breakers...they're just examples of how the classroom setting didn't do much for me. I'm already making room for a couple of cusp shows that I feel like I'm going to be forcing myself to watch again - Tune in to the Midnight Heart, The Darwin Incident,...Imma gonna pass on this one. |

Fully support your decision not to pursue an anime that isn't doing it for you, Edjwald. It's my guiding principle, these days and I'm enjoying my anime hobby more because of it.

I am still no fan but the second episode was a bit better. Some of the students/situations such as the werewolf changing personalities and the mermaid being on a strict timer while she is not good at dancing make for far more compelling stories than the teacher moping about. Even Usami and her being sassy was a bit more fun this week. |

Yeah this show is a long way from hitting it out of the park, but it's got some sort of appeal for me. Looking forward to meeting more of the demi-human girls and teaching staff.

I do wonder about the other demi-human girls. There seem to be the four main ones in the class and the others have only been briefly shown thus far. Episode wise the double personality issue was relatively easily solved. It makes sense though since both personalities care about the other yet both did not make their feelings clear. |

Yeah, both this and Tune into the Midnight Heart are solidly in the "guy helping out cute girls with their problems" genre. In Midnight Heart, MC has helped 3 out of the 4 girls in the broadcast club and here Sensei has helped out 2 out of the 4 girls. As you say, smurky, the OP shows other demi-human girls so presumably we'll see him help them, too. Midnight Heart is more murky... not sure what the show is going to do after the 4th girl gets helped. I mean, I guess there will be the inevitable, "he's done so much for us, now it's our turn to do something for him!" but beyond that, I have no idea.

I would have liked for there to have been a little more downtime before jumping into another focused character story. That grumble aside, It was a good one with Usami being put in the spotlight. Her past plus the way things played out was pretty striking and even managed to move me which is a first for the show. A sad ending since Seiko is dying but Usami has a new goal now. Hitoma also showed that he can be a good teacher/mentor. |

Wow, did not expect this show to give me a good hard kick to the feels, but that's exactly what it did with this one. This show has been on the cusp for me, but this episode raised my respect and puts it on firmer ground. So now there's just Bird Girl left to be helped which is coming next week. After that, I guess we'll start to meet other demi-human girls?

Bird girl is sus and I do not mean that in a negative way. Episode 5 was mostly about interaction between sensei and Tobari yet we barely got to know more about the latter. The way she acted was also more sensei seeming than all the teachers thus far and given that she is keeping something a secret it seems like there will be a reveal of something later on. Hitoma's trauma getting explained was fine but I still do not really care about him. |

They broke the "teacher helping his students" pattern in this episode. It was more like Bird Girl was helping him, although I guess you could argue there was a little bit of turnaround when he encouraged her to sing. We still don't know what her deal is but perhaps that's what next episode will be about. Tbh, I was hoping she would be "helped" in a single episode because I suspect we won't get to meet the other demi-human girls in the OP and ED until she is. Oh well.
Oh side note: I couldn't help but think of Kinme from Wash It All Away when Hitoma dirtied his co-worker's hanky. She's get that stain out no problem! |

I suppose it makes sense that the final assignment to qualify for becoming human would not be something mundane. A written exam would test your knowledge but not if you can actually function as a human. In that respect all the assignments made sense and suited the people in question. Of the four girls it makes sense for Kyouka to graduate since Usami and Oogami still have issues to deal with. Tobari is still a mystery. I guess that means that once Kyouka leaves new girls will be joining the class? |
