I might be wrong, but I think this was the last title Hideaki Anno worked on as a key-animator.

OK, nice to see another old school anime on Tubi TV.

Anno was the key animator for the anime's ending/outro credit along with episode director and storyboarding for the series' OP, and both ending/outro credit according to ANN's Encyclopedia.

The subtitles are unfortunately completely incomprehensible machine-translated nonsense. After Episode 1, which is just missing subs entirely, later episodes feature incorrect character names, nonsense sentences, mistimed subtitles, and more. It makes me feel like I'm watching one of those old Hong Kong Bootleg DVDs.

What I meant, is that it was to my knowledge the last time he did Key-animation, as in after this has not done any on another project since.

What the??!!! Shocked Confused

OK, that's really really unfortunate and oh boy, if anyone is reading this on ANN. Please don't watch this anime on Tubi TV for now until somebody can confirmed the subtitles have been corrected and fixed.

This reeks of "A fan uploaded with with the same infamous loophole as that Tai Chi Chasers incident" to me.

I did a little bit more digging into the subtitles - the original language appears to have been Russian, as from episodes 43 and onward the subtitles leave in the name of the guy who translated them to Russian. This also seemed to explain some of the weird typos that existed in the subs (i.e. one of the episodes had S-E-K-R-E-T). I can see it being a fan upload like YagamiBlackstone255 mentioned, as I want to believe that no official licensor would publish subtitles so dreadful, but at this point I don't know anymore.

And here I thought I was just dumb when I couldn't figure out how to get the subs on episode 1 to display... Confused

Yeah, I'm looking at the episode titles on Tubi's page itself, and some of them are super janky "translations":
Love Battle of Frog and Mouse
A Vacation Date With a Lady Feeling
Learn From Robin! Love Love Daisakusen (they didn't even fully translate this one!)
Good Bye, Heart-Shaped Hair Ornament

You'd hope that, after the whole Tai Chi Chasers debacle, Tubi would have started enforcing some sort of quality control, but clearly that's not the case.

My goodness, this is very serious and for those of you that are confused or have short term amnesia on this that Lord Geo is talking about, refer to this ANN article from July about it. Except, this situation involved bad subtitles and questionable translation of the episode's name. This is very bad and not a good look for TubiTV!!!

When I first saw this story (Suger Suger Rune) this page only had 2 comments and this was the first thing I thought of and thought about leaving a small comment but I had work to do so low and behold it seems my gut was right although with a different suspect this time. Get your crap together Tubi!

Dang, was hoping they fixed this in the Tubi upload. I watched ep 1 on Darkroom a few weeks back and it was incomprehensible machine translated mess.

I was just going to ask about that. That implies this isn't an unofficial upload as Darkroom is operated by Synergetic, a proper rights holder. They're who AnimEigo got Romeo's Blue Skies and Nasu from.

Since there is a working relationship, maybe AnimEigo will one day pick it up and give it a proper translation.

I noticed it was on there just before Christmas and wrote to Tubi's Support team that the first episode's subtitles were missing. They gave a generic response initially saying that the subtitles are provided to them by their content partners (like they didn't even look at it, they thought I was talking about closed captions). After clarifying they said their team would hear it. Rolling Eyes
