I mean if the speculations are true then I feel like it's valid?
It's kind of like if someone went to pay respects to to their great grandpa who was an SS officer and relatives of holocaust survivors got mad?

I wonder though if true why it became a thing now? 2009 is way before Arcknights and deep space love

Here's the 2009 blog post in question. The original post was deleted but the archive exists courtesy of the Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20160916134348/http://ameblo.jp/aaronstorn/archive2-200907.html

Apparently in 2009, Sato ran a travel blog. He was trying to get to a studio in Ichigaya for work. Said studio happened to be close to the Yasukuni Shrine. He apparently got lost and wound up at the shrine, but he paid his respects there. It was his first time at the shrine.

Also, notably, Ai Kayano was also removed from Arknights and other Chinese mobile games after she posted about visiting the Yasukuni Shrine in 2021: https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/politics/article/3121883/japan-voice-actress-ai-kayano-sparks-anger-chinas-social-media (This might be worth ANN mentioning in the article as it was related and I don't remember them ever posting about it when the news first broke out.)

That's kind of funny. Man gets lost on way to work, ends up at shrine, pays respects.
Little did he know, it was the war crimes shrine
