Hi, I am a big fan of the Gundam, so, if I can, I try to get the best. Currently I am trying to buy (cheaply enough) Mobile Suit Gundam 00: The Movie - A Wakening of Trailblazer on Blu-ray. So, to my knowledge, so far there was an American issue of the blu-ray on July 5th of this month. However, for some reason, the stores reluctant to sell the item, and some as Best Buy stating about the new pre-order of the upcoming blu-ray edition on August 9th or so. My questions are that: What is the difference if any between the new upcoming and already old existing BD's? and Is there info why the stores such as Best Buy, Target, or Frys reluctant to sell already produced blu-ray? Another words, is there anything going on from the public to know about the BD's Gundam releases in the US?
Thank you in advance, Zibster! |

The release from this month is only a blu-ray or dvd edition, but the one coming up in August will be combo pack which has both the blu-ray and the DVD edition in one box.
I don't know why they didn't want to sell you the blu-ray. Perhaps, they were out of stock since the combo pack is coming out in August they may not have had a huge stock pile. I know that online sites like Right Stuf are out of stock as well. My suggestion is order it online if you're trying to save money. Blu-ray (they will ship it to you when it gets in stock. I ordered a copy and I'm currently waiting which usually doesn't take long.) http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/MgftAGFTTXDaRJezCo/browse/item/91846/4/0/0 Combo pack pre-order (they usually ship before release date) http://www.rightstuf.com/cgi-bin/catalogmgr/MgftAGFTTXDaRJezCo/browse/item/92462/4/0/0 |

A lot of those kinds of stores only have room for 1 version of the movie, so they will probably get the most "bang for their buck" by doing the combo pack.
Though I did see the DVD version of one of the Gundam movies (not really into Gundam) in the bin for the buy one get one free sale they were having at Frys a couple weeks ago. Also for some odd reason Fry's still does not have the DVD version of Samurai Champloo that was released recently, though they did have the Blu-Ray version. I know Target carries a few anime titles (mostly really mainstream stuff like Dragon Ball Z), but I was unaware they carried Gundam. Walmart is pretty much the same, though they have had a few other things in the past (like Moribito for example). Best Buy on the other hand, not really sure what is going on there, cause they have an anime section (though it is a lot smaller than it used to be). Of course since I don't really bother with Blu-Rays, I could be looking in the wrong spots. |
