I just re-discovered this feature that I really loved way back when I was just getting into anime. Unfortunately it's only available through archive.org but I think T.H.E.M. Reduced Anime was one of the best and funniest features I ever saw. They take a bunch of series and reduce each of them to a few lines of dialogues. And often it's both hilarious and scary how accurately the plot can be summed up to just those few lines. The reduction of Evangelion is particularly brilliant IMHO.

Enjoy: T.H.E.M. Reduced Anime!

OMG! That's the greatest. Laughing The Grave of the Fireflies one is a perfect summary. I do agree the greatest one is the Eva reduction--priceless. Some of those series are definitely better in reduction.

Wow, you're right, that's probably the best summary of NGE I have ever read. I mean it's practically all there. Very Happy

I also loved the DBZ one:
Quote:
Goku and the heroes:

We want to get the Dragonballs so we can bring all our friends back to life everytime some *jerk* wants to either take over or destroy the world!

This made me chuckle.

Too bad there's not more of them, I'd like to see what they'd do with some of the newer series. I'd try myself but I'm not that creative. Still, what they have there are funny, and like you said it is a bit weird and funny at the same time that when I stop and think about what they wrote, some of those series are pretty well summed up in those few short lines.

I'm gonna have to bookmark the NGE one, so I can come back to it for the next "NGE is awsome" or "NGE is awful" thread.

ETA: HA!! Just read the Captain Tsubasa one. I've never seen the show but now I felt like I have. Razz

Edit again: I absolutely loved the Utena one! Especially the last part explaining why they won't explain the rest of the series. This may not be the best summary, but definitely one of the funnier ones.

Heh that was pretty funny with some of those, and yes I am very surpised on how some of these series main plots can be sumed up so easly, as in a few lines.

Edit: oh and the "A Wind Named Amnesia" one...oh god Laughing Laughing

I got one heck of a kick out of the "reduced script" for Sailor Moon! Brilliant!

I also got laughs for several other of my favorites.

Too bad that hasn't been updated since 1999. It would be interesting to see how they would treat some of the newer titles like Code Geauss, Death Note or Full Metal Panic! and Fullmetal Alchemist.

I have to nod on the Tenchi one because it's true. They basically described what the premise in Tenchi is like.

That's awesome. I love the ones for Gundam Wing, NGE, and Sailor Moon. Utena was ripe for a good one, but I thought that one was dumb.

I've seen the NGE one before though I don't remember exactly where, could have been in a link to that site. The Sailor Moon one is unfortunately too true. Anime smile + sweatdrop

She must be right. She's a Miyazaki girl.

It's sad and funny at the same time.
Some of those are a bit desperate, the Princess Mononoke one wasn't very funny.

My favorite is definitely the Only Yesterday one. I don't think you could get a more accurate summary, truly hilarious.

I have to admit, that's a pretty interesting website, and NGE is definetly one to bring out humor. I'd like to see what they would have for Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan Laughing

All they needed to do with the NGE one is have the script say "I make no sense." Then it really WOULD be a complete NGE summary. Very Happy

My personal favorite was the one for A Wind Named Amnesia. Laughing Grave of the Fireflies is a close second.

In that case, it's up to us to "update" it, just like we're doing with the "Rules of Anime" in another thread Cool Make sure to use spoiler tags if necessary.

Like for instance, Suzuka:

spoiler[
Yamato Akitsuki: Wow, that girl doing the high-jump is gorgeous! I should join the track team and tell her I like her!

Suzuka Asahina: Yamato, you're an idiot.

Honoka: Yamato, although you're an idiot, I'll date you for a few episodes anyway.

Rest of Cast: Yamato, you're an idiot.

The Audience: Wow, Yamato really is an idiot.

Suzuka Asahina: Yamato, you're still an idiot, but you do hold the advantage of being more alive than the boy I used to have a crush on, so I'll go out with you.

THE END]

Okusama wa Joshikousei:

spoiler[
Asami Onohara: Danna-sama!

Kyousuke Ichimaru: Asami!

Asami's Father: Hold it, lovebirds, even though you're married, no sex until she graduates high school!

Iwasaki-sensei: Someone's got to cause some conflict in this anime, and it may as well be me.

(Various INTERRUPTIONS happen, skimpy OUTFITS are worn, and Japanese salarymen's fantasies are vicariously FULFILLED.)

Fansub team: Why the hell did you guys download this crap?

THE END]

Or one that doesn't need spoilers:

Please Twins:

Maiku Kamishiro: We might be related! We might be strangers!

Miina Miyafuji: We might be related! We might be strangers!

Karen Onodera: We might be related! We might be strangers!

(Side characters proceed to cause COMPLICATIONS, and eventually the truth is REVEALED.)

THE END

Matagu Shidou: Wait a minute, I wasn't in creepy incestuous love with my little sister in the previous series!

No offense intended, but even bad anime deserves a more witty retort than that. If it were just me and my buddies making snide remarks like those in person it would probably be hilarious, but as a published joke those comments come across rather flat. In fact the only reason those remarks make any sense at all is because we've already seen those shows. Anybody who hadn't seen them probably wouldn't get much out of those "reduced" barbs at all.
