I was a pretty casual anime fan until I joined ANN. But seeing so many anime fans excited about anime kind of rubs off on you. I was a kind of person who watched as much on TV and caught an occasional box set and DVD. But since joining ANN my DVD library has increased to over 200 DVDs. This site has the best feel of any forum I;ve ever been on. Matter of fact the most posts I ever had on anime forum was 55 until I joined ANN. The best qualities of this site are the forum rules and legit anime stories and not anime gossip. This site has kindled an enjoyment of anime that I thought I would never have. [EDIT: Fixed thread title and a few other things. ~Zalis]

Not at all. Stealing anime off the internet increased it. All ANN did was provide me with news (even though they love to jump the gun and have to constantly correct themselves. hasn't happened lately though. )
I never really even posted here that much until the start of this year.

Oh dear lord yes it did. I was just a young anime fan back in 2004, and at the time I got my anime from browsing Kazaa. Basically ANN (along with the forum members) taught me about Bootlegs and what to watch and more importantly why no one will License Monster . Thanks to this site I am a proud owner of over 300 legit DVDs and so I am broke thanks ANN.

i feel the same way DragonsRevenge does except i have been reading far more than posting. i joined in 2005 and often read to keep myself from being bored at school or even at home. i like the mature conversations that go on here, and especially the encyclopedia. In a way it has increased my fandom. Infact some of the conversations here raised my confidence in anime, whether its looking at sites at school without being pestered by idiots, even if i do ill shake em off and dont feel ashamed since its my hobby and i cant change the fact i do enjoy it. straying a little off topic there.. however recently in the last week or 2 at ann felt kind of slow

No, I wouldn't say I'm more of a fan then I was before I started posting here. I would still be watching anime and spending all my extra money on it even if there was no ANN. It has however provided me with a good place to discuss and learn more about anime.

That's why I visit this site. Reliable news, intelligent people, and good discussions all make ANN an awesome place.
I also appreciate that no signatures are allowed. I know it sounds strange but I'm sick of seeing license wish lists and 40 banners showing off Paint Shop Pro skills. I want to discuss anime not "claim" a character, join a "fan club", or whine at Geneon to license Moe Superhit #12312312... I'm thankful for ANN.

Well, I wouldn't say that ANN increased my fandom but it helped to bring direction as to what is new and what people thought of particular titles. I think the best thing I got out of this is finding other people who enjoy anime and manga! If anything, it's helped me organize my collection. There are a lot of nice people here
Also, it's helped me highlight titles since I'm always on the look out for suggestions.

Yes it has! I have learned so much in the short time I have been here. I think that the Answerman column and the Questions/Answers thread have helped me the most (I love that I am now able to identify and avoid bootlegs especially since my only means of buying anime is online) Plus, after reading about many other posters favorite anime has helped me increase my general knowledge of anime as well as my Netflix list by about 20 different titles. I have become interested in reading manga since joining ANN as well.

Even though I haven't been posting a lot lately, I always come here [everyday actually] to check on the news and the reviews.
Plus, a lot of ANN users are very helpful in many ways. It's thanks to some of you that I've managed to stay away from low quality/ horrid anime. This site is very helpful indeed, both the forums and the encyclopedia etc.

I wouldn't say my love for anime has increased by joining ANN. But I am grateful to this site. If it weren't for ANN, I probably wouldn't know about anime like Monster or about the new Tales of Symphonia anime coming out or about Satoshi Kon's new movie, Paprika.
I also like that this site doesn't allow those stupid Somebody vs Somebody topics or who the hotter bishounen is topics. The people here are also really nice and the posts here are usually very fun to read.
Thanks guys and keep up the good work ANN.

Back when I joined, I was relatively new to anime and it's fandom (and to tell the truth I was also new to forums or at least forum with contents), and thanks to ANN and it's users, I am now much more versed in all thing related to it. By participating to intelligent and meaningful conversation my writing greatly improved and my English vocabulary expended too (but I still suck at arguing). My anime collection... did not greatly expand (I do live in Quebec city, where anime are almost only available trough the internet plus i still got so many hobbies) but my manga collection did (once I got reconciliated with French manga publishers and discovered that in the end, most of those company are betters than North American ones). I also started importing Region 2 Dvds (some shows that were licensed in France) and Japanese manga of series I would kill to have. So yeah, it increased for me.

Nope, it's stayed the same since I was in 5th grade, MY LIFE IS CENTERED AROUND IT. So I haven't gained or lost any of it since I became a member on here or the other time I became a member on here. Now I have learned a little bit and I feel like I've helped a community with the entries in the encyclopedia, but more fandom(?), no I haven't. Love you too.

ANN has made me a more informed fan, but didn't actually increase my fandom. I was already an 11 year veteran fan of anime when I started posting here. Once you've been a fan that long chances are you've already hit your peak. If anything I've found myself burnt out easier since joining since I feel like I'm trying to process too much information and too many shows at once. Eh, it happens, I'm back up to speed and doing marathon viewings again.

I have something to say about bootlegs as well- before venturng into online fandom, I didn't know that you could do that (mind you, that was quite a long time ago). This wouldn't be NN specifically, but still...
Anyways, the forums, articles, and especially encyclopedia have been immensly helpful. You know there's something wrong when you can watch any compilation of anime characters or images one time and not be able to name any of them, then come back later and get them all. o.0 So many titles I had never heard of on here.

Wow. I mean, I do know people with this many DVDs. But anime can be really expensive- I can't believe some of the numbers you guys are listing, I'd go broke too. In that way, I guess my fandom is expanding (by expanding the hole in my pocket).

I wouldn't say my PASSION has grown, but my knowledge as well as personal stock has grown massively. ANNs extensive database is truly a blessing to the internet.
