While watching episode 6 of Full Metal Panic! 2nd Raid I notice a sequence that displayed a bunch of people infront of a salon. Guess who they were Very Happy

I was surprised to find them there. Have there been anything else like this out there?

Jesus... I wonder if it was on purpose?

So... it's Light, his dad, Misa and L...

Sometimes it's done for fun, anime creators like to show their appreciation for other shows that they are fans of.

In a single episode of Lucky Star they made references to PaniPoni Dash, Full Metal Panic - Fumoffu and Cromartie High School among probably several others.

Oh that reminds me, I was creeped out in Death Note when a person impersonating L was killed by Light since he had the same first initial and last name as me.

I never noticed that but that would be because I saw FMP:TSR first.

Waittaminute, FMP: TSR was done airing before Death Note started airing so that's pre-emptive reference to an anime that didn't even exist yet at the time Confused

KyoAni also makes a lot of references to Manga; even though I don't read a lot of manga I've had to take a double takes here and there while watching their shows, of course I don't catch all of them but some of them are pretty neat. So maybe that was off the manga?

I knew Kyoto Animation was big on referencing their own works in each of their shows, but I never thought they'd even refer to stuff they didn't make...

AIR referenced Kanon, Haruhi referenced FMP, Kanon referenced AIR and Haruhi, and Lucky☆Star will probably reference everything under the sun by the time they're through. >.>

I dunno... maybe they were hoping to get it, but it turned out that Masao Maruyama was the person they went to when they first started planning the thing; you don't see me complaining.

But yeah... someone on the staff probably decided that they liked the Death Note manga, hence the neat reference seen here.

Oh yeah...

I haven't picked up the TSR DVDs yet...

...

Strange.

Go get them. They are so worth the money it's not even funny.

Thanks LuckySleven for the awesome screencap. I've yet to join the legion of Death Note fans, so without the pic and people's comments, I wouldn't really know who I was looking at. Anime smile + sweatdrop

Yeah, I remember there being a thread about this when that episode first aired, lots of people took it as confirmation of the Death Note anime IIRC. I've never seen it happen in anything else though.

ah its cool to see a still of that. I knew about the L on a bike (just really funny, because it seems like something L would randomly just do) but I only heard that Light, his dad, and misa were in the episode somewhere, I didn't know that they were all there in that one scene.
