I went there regularly, and think it would be a great feature here at ANN. Basically, it had a top ten-15 list, of the highest rated titles _you hadn't seen yet_, as well as the 10 most reviled titles (basically, those to avoid, by general consensus of voting). You signed in, and then you could go through the alphabet, where they would list title after title, each rated using different catagories (drama, comedy, fan service, gore, thriller, etc.... stuff like that), as well as an overall rating of one through ten. Also, a list was kept, next to each show, that showed how many people had rated it, so you could get a sense of general consensus or not. Some of the shows easily went up to a thousand or two reviewers, some as low as twenty or so.
Once you had watched a show, you could click on it and give it an overall rating yourself. There was also a subcategory where, if you felt like it, you could rate all the little extra categories like drama, comedy, etc. You could even re-rate a show, if your opinion changed later on. You also were able to keep a list of all the shows you had watched, and how you had rated them (their list was alpahbetical).
I particularly liked the fact that they recommended the top ten titles for you to watch that you hadn't seen yet. Once you watched it and rated it, then it left the top ten list of unviewed titles and a new one replaced it. A very simple way of recommending titles, and of giving someone a very brief view of what the title was about. The only thing I wish they had had, but this would have been crazzzzzzzyyyyy difficult, would have been to have a very small factual description of what the show was about somewhere on the site. However, of course, this is info you can find out on lots of other sites, and frankly, you have a lot of that info already on this site.
I emailed the people that are at the site now-- the address is still in use, under a different purpose-- and they simply said they ran out of funding to keep it up. If they were contacted (and they were very polite to me), perhaps there would be some way to transfer the info over to ANN, so you wouldn't have to go through the same process of collecting so much info??? Or atleast the titles, etc.???
I think it's a great idea to bring the function over. It's easy to browse, easy to recommend titles, both to newbies and old timers, and its an easy way to rate and archive a list of all the titles one has viewed, which can get extensive.
I easily vote for it!! I was definitely bummed when the service went off line.
