I must say when I first saw BECK I had no clue that an anime titled BECK exsisted and I had no expectations. By the time it was done I loved it. It's probably one of the most influencial anime I've seen. Giving me drive to pick up a guitar and start learning to play.

There's no doubt the anime has great music but I was wondering with the soundtracks, are the english dub cast used or is it the original Japanee cast? The reason for the question is because I've heard the Japanese counter-part to the anime and quite honestly it's just not the same. I thought that the dub was really good and well if I were to buy the soundtracks I would much rather to hear Kuyuki's voice they way I remembered it from the dub.

thanks in advance. Oh and if anyone cares about my long absence... I was on vacation and then right after my computer broke down. Though I don't think I'm that wrapped into the commuity for most people to care. Razz

The Japanese soundtracks are divided into 2 CDs; the first being the music from the anime, and the second being the original versions of each song that inspired the ones in the anime.

The first OST, titled BECK, contains every song sung by just about every band or character in the series. Most of them are full versions like the ones sung by Koyuki, BECK, and/or Chiba, while a few of the others (Hyoudou's band, Ciel Blue, etc.) are just partial tracks.

If you're going to buy any of them, though, I would recommend you just get BECK. The second OST, titled KEITH, contains the same songs, but sung by the original bands. However, I became so accustomed to hearing the anime singers that KEITH never really sounded as good, but it's your choice if you want to do otherwise.

The dub vocals are strictly contained to the English version of the anime, and I don't believe they'll be releasing a dubbed soundtrack anytime due to copyright and licensing issues, which we discussed here.

Thanks. I guess I won't be picking it up. I prefered the English dub voices and I'm used to that. Of course, I understand why that can't be but still. It's unofrtunate.

Yeah I was pretty disappointed about no dub soundtrack either, especially after most of the english VAs did such a good job with the songs but I guess I understand the issue with releasing an english soundtrack. Though alot of the songs are in english in the japanese version...just not sung by the english VAs so they have that odd kind of engrish sound to them.

Hmm.. On listening to the tracks from BECK and KEITH back-to-back, it seemed to me that the songs on KEITH had a demo-like rawness to them, while the songs on BECK had a 'clean', heavily-produced feel to them. I like both albums, though. But then, it almost seems weird that the "I've Got A Feeling" cover was as clean as it was on the CD, considering that it was basically an impromptu number in the anime..Question Or maybe it's just me, haha..

Funimation or the VA's of Beck mcs dub could actually or try to do an event performing those songs they worked so hard on. i'd be huge. If I were one of the actors who participated on the music(vocals) or Funimation I would definitely take this opportunity.

Whatever the case I volunteer on drums.

If a fan wants to do this instead, I volunteer on drums.

Greg Ayers and Brina Palencia did sing at opening and closing ceremonies at Anime Boston '07 (which incidentally was my first exposure to Beck), so...

Well with the BECK DVD's, even if no english OST is offered you do get the full dubbed songs on the special features of each DVD, I believe Spice of Life, Like a Foojin, and Brainstorm have been released so far (I used the titles from the Japanese OST). So at the very least you'll have those songs if you buy the dvd's.

The videos are great, still I enjoy the original songs more. Not to sound like those people who can't stand anything other than the original work.
I've never seen a series/(American)movie or show that truly demonstrates the dificulties of learning and playing in a real band. And by learning I mean learning, NOT picling up an instrument once and saying you know.
Other movies and such go from sounding crapy to winning an mtv award(mtv sucks...seriously, more than my typing capabilties). In fact waching BECK makes me feel somewhat intense like when i'm about to go on stage. So much that I got the idea to find people to perform songs from BECK. I want to do this unfortunatly none of the people I know with the capabilities are into anime.

If anyone else in texas wants to do this PM me ~ even outside of texas, if I can't pull this off someone else should.
