Last tuesday I went to the mall to buy something at Mediaplay. There, they have a very nice anime and manga selection. Dvds for $27.99. Now, I go in and go to the dvds, looking around, i start looking faster and WTF the anime section is gone! I'm running up and down throughout the isles looking. I chill out and go to the books to look for some manga hoping that when I go back to the dvds the anime will be there. But no the manga is missing also. So I spend 10 minutes searching the pretty large store for anything anime. But, thank the lord!, In the very dark shadowy, lonely back of the store i see a nice little anime section! There, there is racks full of the dvds and a shelf full of manga! I was so happy. Now, there's a private place I can go and not be disturbed! No one watching me look threw this "strange expensive japanese cartoons" Has this happened to anyone else with their anime providing store?

Nice story, I think. The couple times the anime section was shifted by a store, I calmly asked an employee where the section was moved to. If any store completely removed the anime section, I would simply take my business elsewhere.

That story reminds me of the time I thought my local blockbuster got rid of the gamecube section, come to find out (about 2 months later) that they put it right next to the X-Box and PS2 section. I felt so played.

The only places to get anime around my house are Suncoast, which is so small, even if they moved the anime i would only have to look for a second. Plus they are too overpriced for me to shop there on a regular basis. There is also a bestbuy, I get some of my anime here, but their dvd section isn't gigantic and I would have no problems finding what I wanted if they moved the sections around. However I get most of my anime from online places like right stuf, animenation, and amazon.com

MediaPlay's given the anime & manga their own section together? Good, hopefully this is true for their other stores and I now won't have to keep walking to opposite ends of the store to shop for them (seriously, at the MediaPlay in my area, the anime is up at the VERY front with the other DVDs, while the manga is at the VERY back with the other books...gets tiring walking back & forth and pricing things...).

My Suncoast moves the anime section about once a month. Its better than a few months ago when the whole store was moving around the mall about every 2 months.

Surprising as it sounds everyone that has local Media Plays get ready to see an expanded Anime section that will cater to our "otaku" needs.
How do I know this...I am helping the company set it up.
I work at a Media Play store in Buffalo NY where our investors Sun Capital has decided to run a test with new departments, one of the first put in....an Anime department. We now carry T-shirts, posters, wall scrolls, stuffed toys, action figures, Tons of DVDS, Manga, CDs, Calenders...
Every store is also required to have an Anime club...we just had our first in store Cos-Play contest for Halloween.
Just thought I would share because this has been very profitable for our stores and is now getting rolled out to all the other Media Plays in the country.... so you may want to keep your eye out!!

Tomoyo...look, let me make this clear...
Don't play with my emoitions! [/big perm, I mean, big worm]
So there's a chance my little itty bitty Media Play in little podunk Danville, Kentucky might actually have a decent selection of anime...and anime paraphenelia?
I can only hope.

I work at the one in Hamburg NY
And I am NOT playing....
Thanks to this new department I am like a complete broke loser because with all the new stuff we keep getting in almost my entire paycheck goes back into the store..
Oh and I forget to mention the sections carry Japanese candy and Drinks too....
The only thing we have had trouble with so far is re-stocking....we sell new stuff within two days and its always takes too long to get back in!!

I don't have a media play around here, don't think I've ever been in one. All we have around here are suncoasts and on cues.

I thought just its own section was sweet. But clubs, japanese candy, paraphenilia of the sorts. Thats the kind of stuff that will make you never want to leave and have dreams about. I'll be able to meet people that like anime I don't think people will be able to ignore the anime section for much longer! ha ha ha! It will suck them in and give them a big helping of anime goodness
