I was just wondering why you do go? Is it the experience, merchanise, panel, workshops, games, Artist Alley, anything else I missed.

I went to Otakcon for the experience, I mean biggest in East coast. But the smaller ones was just cause theres nothing to do? Otakcon was so big I couldn't even find the artist alley, and game room, or lobby. I always get sick from them, but I go with friends its always worth it... Well anyone else? Why do you go? What you spend? Was it worth it?

I go to cons because they are fun. It's fun to be around other people who actually understand what I'm interested in. Also I feel more free to be myself at cons than at any other time. Plus everyone is so nice it's easier for people like myself who tend to be shy around people to make new friends and meet up with past friends.

I spend a lot of time just trying to take everything in from panels and workshops to games and anime viewings. Oh! Also I love going through the dealers room looking for merchandise that I didn't realize even existed from my favorite series.

I feel going to cons is worth the time, money, and preparation because while there I have so much fun and have so many wonderful memories from the experience.

Yeah, sick like throats gone, fever, shaking, the whole nine yards, mostly on the first and second day... I guess from the travel or the people.

I could never make friends at cons. You right though the first con I went to I suprise at how nice the people were, that I thought it was gag or something. I mean while in line the guy in front just turns around an start talking to me and my friends like we were family.

I pretty much have the same reasons. I mostly go to cons because of the people - to make new friends, people watch (particularly the cosplayers), to hang out with the friends I already have (all who I met in other cons).

While I don't get sick because of cons, I do become really tired Anime hyper 90% of the time I'm walking around, cause there are usually no seats. That's about 5 hours of just walking around with little rest.

I see... my little sis felt the same way after I dragged her along to my first con, but then she doesnt have the greatest immune system in the world.

I'm with you there. Especially if you only slept about 3 hours before going.

I love cons, I go for and the panels and events, and for all of the great people. I have made a lot of new friends at cons. People are really friendly at those things, and I am always sad to leave. I always spend way too much money in the dealer’s room. So to keep myself in control I normally set a budget aside, just for spending in the dealer’s room. I also love going to the screenings. There is just something fun about sitting in a room with a bunch of really fun people and watching an anime movie together. At NYAF I was watching “the girl who leapt threw time”. And in one seen every girl in the room all just went ahwww!!! Things like that are just so funny and cute. It’s not something that happens with a lot of my friends who are not into anime. It’s hard to get them to watch an anime with me, and if they did they would not be into it. so cons are really great for makeing new friend's. Anime catgrin

Because at cons (in sweden at least) nothing is wrong. Guys kiss guys and girls go "Kyaaaa~". You can hug a stranger and they will hug you back. You can talk to almost anyone and it wont be awkward. You can observe people weirder than you. More twisted than you. More pathetic than you. Funnier that you. Cuter than you. You name it and you might see it at a con. If ANYONE (pretty much) at a con would be in your class in school they would be your friend. No one will insult you for being a nerd at a con. Or try to get you to drink alcohol. A con is a couple of days of Utopia. A place where everyone likes everyone...

Maybe its cause I always get sick that I'm sour but no one has mention the smells at the cons. Is there a reason some smell that awful?

But with the alking around. No one just sits on the floor? The smaller cons you able too, but I know at Otakcon, after noon there was no room to walk in the hallways!

Same with the dealer's room, the smaller ones always haul up.

Nevertheless the atmosphere is always so comforable and relaxing. Even if you stay up on night, and than go to the early panels.

It's kinda hard to do that when you're wearing a short skirt >_<but>_<

That's usually the case for me, especially when I want to cosplay. I have to prepare my costume, accessories, props, etc. Even when I don't plan on cosplaying, I still stay up late cause I get excited Anime smile + sweatdrop

I go to cons half for hanging out with my friends and other fans, and half to go to the panels (both panels on the history of anime--my friend does two panels at my local con that are ALWAYS informative, so I try not to miss 'em--and he panels featuring the guests)/get autographs. I tend to try to go to as many events as I can, which drive my friends crazy because they'd much rather take cosplay photos/hang out with people. Anime catgrin + sweatdrop

I think for myself it's to see what's new in the world of anime, as well as going with my friends and hanging out. It also serves as a good way to get away from school and work for a couple of days. The last two cons that I have been to I have made sure to go to the panels which feature the people who run the site I am currently posting on right now as well.

1. I can purchase my anime and manga at American retail prices, sometimes less than that. (Prices can vary at times at the retail outlets I frequent for anime.) Heck, with the exception of several volumes of I"s (which is the only title I've ever tried to buy upon release date so far), every single volume of manga I've ever purchased was done so at a convention.
2. The game shows. The cons in the Toronto area are more fan-oriented, and the games are another way to interact with others and to have fun at the con.
3. Seeing Japanese guests. Seeing them essentially pays for the admission in my opinion (especially if they're a singer/band), since it's likely that I'll never be able to see them in person again.
4. It's an opportunity to hang out with friends. Good memories can be had while at a con.

I go primarily to see old friends and make new ones, and for the overall atmosphere. It's the only place where anime fans aren't the minority, really, which is nice. I also like buying things that I'd have to scour the internet for otherwise.

I don't think I'd ever be able to handle going to a really big convention. I'm just not comfortable in large crowds of people and I tend to make myself sick with so much going on around me.

But little conventions are nice. It's fun to hang out with a group of people that gets it. It's a sort of instant camaraderie.
