I thought the reasoning behind tentacle monsters was that Japan's strict 'no genitals' laws make it hard to make regular guy/girl interaction. The tentacles replace the phallus and allow for observable penetration without government censorship.

Not that I, uh, you know, watch... tentacle... um... I-I tend to stay away from that stuff. Yes. I mean, no. IMEANGOODBYE.

Spam eh? I sympathize with you, Ms Answerman. I used to have my email address up here, but I ended up getting emails like "hi cn u tell me where 2 get sasuke contatcs thnx pls reply" and "sign a petition to make another DB series", so I took it off. I don't get spam, so when something like this shows up in my inbox, it pretty noticeable. Honestly, people must think this type of chatspeak is a way to express themselves. It expresses stupidity, at the very least. Rolling Eyes You have an interesting job...

Heh, if I had to guess what show is being referred to in the third letter, I'd say Super GALS! Doesn't really seem like much else that it could be... (and the second season is not coming out because it isn't licensed, unfortunately)

Only other thing I can think of for that third one is Kaleido Star.

Possible, but I don't think Kaleido Star has a manga being released like GALS...

Hmm... I've seen plenty of hentaii (did I mention all my guy friends come to me to find this crap for them? Why can't they just ask me to find some Gonzo series?) that show "up close and personal" shots. From what I read, a Japanese porn company broke this "faux pas" in the early or mid 90s and it's now a choice if a company blurs out shots like that. I think I read this on the J-list side blog.

And Super GALS? Well, if it is a person trying to get publicity, I would think that the second season would be coming out soon and not unlicensed... is that even a word?

Check here. ADV has stated that they only licensed the first season, and that they've never had the rights to the second season of Super GALS! (which has actually never been released in Japan, either).

It's understandable... every so often, I'm the victim of stuff along the lines of...

Them: U evr hrd of Inuyasha?
Me: Yeah
Them: ooooo
its totaly the most awwsome thingg evarrrr... do u liek it?
Me: Nah, it's okay, but it's too predictable and repetitive for my tastes.
Them: No it's not, its gr8
Me: (detailed explanation of how it is predictable and repetitive)
Them:ooooo
ok
U evr hrd of Trigun?
Me: (thinking) ARRRRGHHHHH! Look at my damn avatar, you idiot! You said you found me on ANN. Stop wasting the world's oxygen!

And so on... maybe I'm the dumb one for leaving my AIM listing enabled?

Either way Ms. Answerman, I feel your pain. You may get letters, but I get IM spam.

Jeez, I had that happen once or two, one time from a guy looking to chat, the other looking to bash, with I had a really hard time to read. I did get one from JMays. I think I still have him on AIM, but I don't use it all that often.

What about my umlaut question? Didn't make the cut?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Hello. I just read the review of Nausicaä on ANN, and I noticed, for the first time, I think, that there is a umlaut or dieresis (¨) over the final 'a'. I think it is a dieresis, which would mean that it would be pronounced 'Nausica-yuh'. Is this true? It seems like it would make sense in Japanese to add the extra half-syllable, but I don't really know. How is it pronounced in the dub? Are there any other anime or manga with an umlaut or dieresis in the title, ornamental or otherwise? Thanks.
