I would not have expected Haifuri to rank on the list, let alone be in the #2 slot.

Am I the only one baffled by the popularity of school girl uniforms for cosplays? I don't mean this disrespectfully--the sailor fuku design is cute, but to me it looks like the 1st and 2nd entries are all but IDENTICAL. I've seen some creative school uniform designs (heck this list alone showcases some nice variety) but for the life of me I can't understand why the sailor-topped, pleated skirt look is still so popular when it comes off as the most generic.

Maybe it has more to do with the characters behind the costumes, as is the case with a lot of contemporary-styled cosplays. ^^; But I just can't see it.

It's worth noting that the article is somewhat misleading in how it frames things. It's a list of what was most popular out of what Cospa actually sells, not actual cosplay popularity. As Cospa outfits are in the several hundred dollar range, they're not something the average person would be buying. Additionally, several of the outfits on there are ranked highly because Cospa pushed them hard through promo events for the series and/or being enlisted as the official cosplay supplier for the series.

There's plenty of other series that would be deemed more popular but Cospa either:
a) Doesn't make anything for the series
or
b) Does make something for the series, but they charge thousands for it so of course it's not going to be "popular"

For Haifuri, they're listed in the credits as a sponsor of the show. They were suppliers for official cosplayers at promotional events for the show right after it started airing, advertising the uniform at the show's booth, and the uniforms were available for preorder within months. Contrast this to Madoka, where it took 5 years to make and produce the outfit because despite the massive popularity, there was no partnership in place.

Euphonium is a tie-in to the partnership that Cospa has had with KyoAni since the Haruhi days, as that was a big seller for them. The only recent KyoAni production that I don't recall Cospa making an official cosplay costume for has been Myriad Colours Phantom World.

If a news story from Japan baffles you, the answer is usually "men."

There's a line in the first Maria-sama ga Miteru novel (from the late '90s) referring to "uniform maniacs" who are aficionados of real-life uniform designs, so it doesn't surprise me at all that such a thing would extend to fictional school girl uniforms, too.

No. 7 is not Kajima. It's Kashima. There's no Kajima in KanColle.

Thanks for pointing this out. The error has been corrected.
