I'll admit, I find Shin Chan mediocre at times. It feels as if they're forcing mildly offensive western references into the English dub, often at a tangent to the situation comedy. As somebody who likes 'adult' animated comedy to genuinely strike below the belt, offerings like this aren't so much a source of belly laughs as they are a mild diversion.

Baccano! vol. 2 is out already? Nice.

Personally the accents didn't bother me all that much; of course, that was only in the first volume so it could have changed. It took a while to get used too, but after the first episode I became quite fond of them.

Is it some strange sort of camaraderie? Is it because you're both in a boat?

Yeah, we water people are weird. Smile Basically, as my dad explained it to me when I was little, it comes from the Good Old Days when you might be at sea without a radio for months on end. Solidarity was a good thing if you found yourself in trouble, plus the other boat might have letters for you or better food than you, or just be people you haven't been living on a boat with for months. I never really thought of it as obnoxious (grew up on an island, so it was all around me), but I can see how it might be weird if you weren't used to it.

I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of Baccano from Rent Anime. I have a strange affinity for the 20s and 30s.

I couldn't help but laugh at the Gift-Wrapped-Light on the figurine shelf. Something about seeing Light in a bag made me giggle...

Lady, you've got to lighten up with the waving thing... people who self identify into groups always wave if there is some distance involved. I haven't boated in a while [being in the wilds of the frontrange where the biggest water is chatfield or cherry creek res. doesn't help] But in many other activities like Jeeps, biking, RV's you wave because you are automatically part of a group by doing those things. More important, if the wave turns into a frantic gesture of 'HELP!' those very same people will help, just because you are part of the group even though they don't know you.

Kinda like commenting on how cool you find a cosplayer in a Chise outfit, since most people doin't know what that is, ne?

For the rest, patience, I'll wait 'til claymore is in a boxset, as much for that money, as for the fact that I need to watch them one after another without interruption. Like a toddler, I can't wait for the next disk to come out...

When your on a boat out on the water and far enough away from the shore to safely swim to, you want to be friends with anyone who just might come and save your sorry arse before you either drown, or die of hyperthermia, should the worst case actually happen, which soo easily can out at sea, or lake, or river. So keep waving at the frendly people in the other boats. They're saying "we see you and we know you are there, and you see us, and know we are here." They just might save your life, and they'll expect the same from you. If you can't deal with that, stay on shore, or close to it. Wink

Just here to say that not everybody likes Baccano!. It's okay if you see it for the terrible characters, draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn out storytelling, and really, really terrible characters that it features. You're not alone. Baccano!!!!!!!11!1!! is not the next Bebop... It's not even the next Coyote Ragtime. It's just the next overhyped, overstylized, under-plotted piece of dreck to come along and try and trick the public into believing its own advertising campaign.

I, for one, am certainly glad somebody dropped by to tell us this. Had we remained uninformed to this discovery, I'm really not sure how we'd have gone on. Currently contacting CNN and other media outlets to report this information.

Same here. Without accents it would be fine, but having them, however inconsistent, adds to the atmosphere. The series is pretty thoroughly 1930's America. If anything, Japanese language honorifics are what seem weird.

So Funi really did decide to include honorifics in the subtitles the way the preview episode did? That truly makes no sense. I mean, if it took place in Japan, yes, please, keep them in, but since this is 1930s America, translate them into English equivalents!

Really, every character is a mongoloid or a smug douchebag. That's not entertainment, that's Guantanamo torture.

Thank you for using an offensive term like "mongoloid." It really helped your case.

Would it really have made his case any better if he said, "Every character acts like they have Down Syndrome..." instead?

No, it would have been better if he said "every character is stupid..." And yes, Isaac and Miria between them have maybe enough brains to pass the first grade, but that's part of why I like them, they're the dumb and dumber of Baccano!

This is the same person who said the same things the first time Baccano! was reviewed. You can tell by the use of the not-funny !!11!!!!1 gag. Unless that's become a meme...?

I think this might have some validity if you were out in the ocean.

When you are in a harbor, surrounded by tourists in boats (DRUNK tourists in boats), with the shore barely 250 ft from wherever you are on either side, I don't think there is much concern of needing my life to be saved. Nor do I expect a drunkard on a 200ft Booze Cruise to be mentally aware enough to save me. ;p

Also, if you have a yacht, you might be an a-hole. Just sayin'.

Orange County is the worst.
