I like DBZ Abridged... and that's about it as far as those type of things. Probably the best way to watch DBZ right now. And the voice acting is actually better than Funimation's.

Brian, you have a Patlabor 2 wallscroll? Awesome. I friggin' love that movie. I didn't even know they made wallscrolls for that, do want.

The only abridged anything I can stand is Sailor Moon Abridged for having a more hip air about it while still having enough intelligence in Sailor Moon to make fun of it.

Is voice acting even that prevalent for anime outside of Texas lately? Most regular cartoon actors really don't have to worry much about work lately.

THANK YOU!

I cannot stand those abridged versions of shows; all they do is redub over the same video with "funny" dialogue, no crafty editing or anything.

I've been amv'ing for years, suffered through several nervous breakdowns, and I have never resorted to such cheap inanity. I made a fart video filled with women from Najica, but that's about it.

Abridged series are meant to be watched when drunk (I'm 25, for the record).

And, apparently, in a crowd of other likenesses. That's the essence of the abridged series: they're all crowd-pleasers. Not my tea, though.

You obviously have no idea what Abridged Series are for, Brian. They allow fans of the original product to laugh at themselves and their favourite shows; affectionate parodies, if you will. If you never liked Yu-Gi-Oh! in the first place, then what are you doing watching Yu-Gi-Oh!: The Abridged Series?

Bang Zoom isn't in Texas. They've been featured twice on Conan O'Brien since July.

I mean, I understand that humor is the most subjective of all artforms, but... those "Abridged Series" things make me laugh about as much as cancer surgery, or Jeff Dunham.

Achmed is too cute. Way funnier than any of those stupid Bleach videos my daughter thought were hilarious.

As for geek/nerd, too much protest on the questioner's side. Would you prefer to be considered an elitist? A hobbyist? Who cares what anyone thinks? However anime is niche. It's like sci fi fans long being considered geeks/nerds/insane/etc.

Abridged series' are not unlike AMVs' in my book--both equally annoying and headache inducing(but, then, so is most of non-anime Adult Swim, so, maybe it would work.)

Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series is the only abridged series worth watching. Does it have something to do with the fact it's the first and all others are imitators? I don't know.

I don't quite understand what the last letter was talking about, what was she trying to say?

She was sick of male anime fans trying to pick her up just because she's interested in Japanese culture.

You *had* to bring up Robot Chicken, now I'm going to be humming the closing credits music at work tomorrow...Oh and I agree that Abridged Series are intended for series you're already familiar with...and that there are WAY too many of them...there's even Gargoyles Abridged on the Itunes Abridged Podcast...is that even Anime?

To the female who wrote the E-mail which generated the new Question of the Week: Methinks you think too highly of yourself. Unless you're making a living off your looks, you can't hit every male demographic -- or even the majority of them.

Did you ever stop to wonder if some of those guys are looking for others who share a common interest? Maybe they aren't all trying to get in your pants?

I'm not saying there aren't creeps out there among anime enthusiasts, or that you haven't had bad experiences in the past, but painting everyone who watches anime with the same brush is irresponsible at best and downright ignorant at worst.

Get over yourself.

You know I kind of feel insulted by the email before the weekly answerman question. I am guy and generally would like to find a girl who some of the same interests as me. I did not like how she put a negative label on all male anime fans. Sad

In response to the writer-in, who wrote this:

Quote:
One area where anime shines, at least the most popular anime among American audiences, is in the way it depicts the equality between the sexes.

To be honest, I am absolutely floored that someone thinks this. Now I hate to throw the sexism card (I'm not normally one to complain about this), but the truth is that Japan can still be pretty sexist in comparison to America. The fact that Japanese women often avoid marriage because they'd be expected to quit their jobs and be housewives speaks to this. I think this cultural phenomenon rears its ugly head all too often in anime.

The writer cited Naruto as an example of how the sexes are equal in anime, yet I see it as a great example of how they are NOT. Not only are the female ninjas vastly outnumbered by male ninjas (like what, 1 to 10? Less?), most of them, especially Sakura, are allowed to be cool, but only if they're not as cool as the boys. Eventually, to make up for this fact, they do the standard anime cop-out of making them the healers. "See? We're still cool, because we... heal stuff. Girls can't fight as good as boys you see." And this is *especially* true if the female is the love interest of the main character, and then they are inevitably forced to sit back and watch the main character do cool stuff, and never do anything cool themselves. Now, don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed all these series, but see Bleach, Naruto, Trigun, Ruonin Kenshin, Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, and countless others for proof.

Wow! I didn't know that voice acting work was so easy! As well has editting clips of video together! Oh it's not, the only difference between what you do and they do is that they dub it with their own voices.

LOL They're doing what you do basically and you're dissing them? You're hilarious.
