Toei Denies Report of New Dragon Ball Super Episodes 'at This Moment' (Updated)

posted on by Karen Ressler

International media news website WorldScreen posted a spotlight on Toei Animation on Monday and said that the company is "making more episodes of Dragon Ball Super." However, Toei Animation denied having "mentioned or announced" more episodes of Dragon Ball Super, and told ANN that the report "is not true at this moment."

Dragon Ball Super premiered in Japan in July 2015 on Fuji TV and other channels. The series ended its consecutive run in March 2018 and was replaced with GeGeGe no Kitarō, which is slated to run for 50+ episodes. The Dragon Ball Super manga's story has continued past the anime's.

The Dragon Ball Super: Broly anime film, the first Dragon Ball film to carry the Dragon Ball Super title, opened in Japan on December 14. Funimation premiered the film's English dub in Hollywood on December 13, and opened general screenings last week.

Update: World Screen updated its spotlight article and added the following text:

Correction: The previously written article contained inaccurate information regarding the production of new Dragon Ball Super episodes. Toei Animation does not plan on producing new television episodes at this time.

A week before the spotlight article, the January 2019 NATPE & Pre-KidScreen Edition of WorldScreen's TV Listings publication listed the following under the Toei Animation's NATPE entry:

Dragon Ball Super (Animation, 67x30 min., more eps. in prod.)
