Trivia:

The only home video release was a VHS release that was distributed by VAP Video sometime after its theatrical release. However, the movie has never been re-released since then, not even in newer home video formats such as DVD or Blu-ray, causing the official VHS tapes to become sought-after collector's items, with prices reaching as high as US$600 on auction sites. Moreover, the movie has never been released internationally, remaining a rare production that has never been released outside Japan or in any language besides Japanese. This is because Shochiku, the company that distributed this film, does not operate outside of Japan.

This is one of the first instances in any Mario Bros. related media in which Luigi is depicted being taller than Mario. Something that would not be accentuated worldwide until the release of the western Super Mario Bros. 2 game.

At one point, the two Goomba characters are seen atop a giant shoe. Though maybe a coincidence, this looks similar to the Goomba's Shoe from Super Mario Bros. 3.

Mario's method of battling Bowser by picking him up by the tail and throwing him was the same method of defeating him in Super Mario 64.

Luigi's blue hat, yellow shirt and blue overalls bears a strong resemblance to an alternate costume for him in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U. Whether this is was meant to be intentional or not has not been confirmed.

Thanks to Kineko Video and Femboy Films. This movie special was able to get a 4K remastered & restored presentation after not getting any other home video release beside the previous VHS release that came out in Japan. The movie special for the 1st time can now be watched on Youtube and Internet Archive with subtitle for free. This mark the first time people outside of Japan can watch this film special after many years since it's Japanese release.
