Trivia:

The title, Patlabor, comes from the term Patrol Labor and is used to describe labors used by the police and the military.

Clips of the movie were incorporated into a KMFDM music video.

All three Patlabor movies are actually based in the same timeline as the orignal ova, not the tv series and the 2nd ova series. There are clues like the av-zero labor being presented for the 1st time in Patlabor 1 the movie, or officer Takeo Kumagami never shows up in any of the 3 movies since she never showed up in the original ova series.

At around 1:25:20, behind Shinohara in the background, under his hand, the screen says "OMG"

The film won an award at the 1989 Japan Anime Awards.

The concept of the plot having no protagnogist was based off of Mamoru Oshii's original concept for his rejected idea for the third Lupin III film which ended up being known today as "Gold of Babylon".

Portions of this film were used in an alternate edit of the KMFDM music video "Juke Joint Jezebel"
