Rei Ayanami isn't exactly the warm and friendly type, especially after having been seriously injured during her first disastrous attempt to synchronize with her Eva. However, after having been solely responsible for the Earth's defense since his arrival in Tokyo 3, Evangelion pilot Shinji Ikari ought to be grateful to have Rei coming back on duty in the fight against the Angels. Instead, he finds himself curiously abmivalent about his mysterious co-worker, especially when it becomes apparent that Rei's emotional bond with Shinji's father is much stronger than Gendo's relationship with his own son. However, personal differences are swept aside when a new Angel attacks, severely injuring Shinji!
