Arina Tanemura Auctions Jeanne Art for Quake Charity

Original Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne color pieces gets 356,000-yen/US$4,420 bid

Japanese manga artist Arina Tanemura is currently auctioning a collection of original drawings that she created for the color illustrations in her 1998-2000 series Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. Since she drew all of these illustrations by hand, she notes that there is only one of each drawing in the entire world.

At press time, the auction's going price was 356,000 yen (about US$4,420). The proceeds from the auction will go to the Stand Up! Japan charity project, whose funds go to relief efforts and the victims of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster of March 11.

Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne revolves around a young woman named Maron who has the ability to transform into the titular Jeanne. She uses these powers to seal away demons who attempt to hide in humans' hearts and possess them. In 1999, Toei Animation adapted Tanemura's manga into a television anime series.
