posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Fans announced their opinions loud and clear on which manga and anime series they never want to see jump from 2D to 3D. Series like Slam Dunk, One Piece, and Evangelion were the three top choices. However, live-action adaptations of manga series, especially as TV dramas and films, are very common. Just this year anohana, Bakuman, Attack on Titan, Patlabor, My Neighbor Seki, Death Note, My Love Story, and plenty more are coming to TV and movie screens with a live-action cast.

A survey held in Japan last week asked 100 men for their they're favorite live-action adaptation of all time. Two choices tied for #1: Tsuri Baka Nisshi and Thermae Romae.

Tsuri Baka Nisshi has inspired over 20 live-action films detailing the antics of salaryman Densuke Hamasaki and his fishing-obsessed supervisor. Toshiyuki Nishida starred as the protagonist since the first film debuted in 1988. The Thermae Romae manga and live-action films chronicle the journey of one Roman architect who finds himself transported to modern Japan and discovers the similarities between both civilizations' bathing cultures. Hiroshi Abe starred in both live-action film adaptations.

Other top choices include:

  • Nodame Cantabile
  • Gokusen
  • 20th Century Boys
  • Rurouni Kenshin
  • Sukeban Deka
  • Naniwa Kin'yudo
  • Kaiji
  • Salaryman Kintaro
  • Kodoku no Gourmet
  • Oishinbo
  • Death Note
  • Sazae-san
