Anime Producer Yuichi Fukushima Endures Harassment Over DARLING in the FRANKXX Episode

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Former A-1 Pictures and current CloverWorks animation producer Yūichi Fukushima's Twitter account is being inundated with angry and harassing messages since the airing of DARLING in the FRANKXX's 14th episode this week. The episode re-established the ongoing love triangle between Hiro, Zero Two, and Ichigo with many fans reacting negatively to Ichigo's actions within the episode.

Fukushima wrote two tweets about the series' 14th episode on April 14. The first tweet thanks the episode's staff for their work and requested viewers continue to watch the show next week. The second tweet complimented the episode's unique ending sequence.

Both tweets have received comments ranging from disappointment in the episode's content to death threats towards the episode's director and writer. Others are posting a doctored image of Zero Two holding a pistol with the subtitle "Say Ahh!" and have threatened to kill the screenwriter's family. Other comments are calling for Fukushima to fire writer Hiroshi Seko or even going so far as to suggest Seko kill himself.

Some fans were angry enough about the episode's content to start a #Bitchigo hashtag to vent their frustrations and even stating that they wanted the character to die. The #Bitchigo hashtag was predominantly used by English-speaking viewers and the harassing messages towards Fukushima do not contain the hashtag, and are written in Japanese, Chinese, and English. Many of the comments seem to originate from throwaway accounts, possibly to avoid getting banned from Twitter.

Anime News Network has reached out to Trigger about the current harassment and will update this article if and when a comment is provided.
