Sydney Olympics Hosts Anime Festival

posted on

For our readers in .au, as well as anyone who is attending the Olympics this August in Sydney, be aware that there will be anime there! ^_^

According to Olympics.com, there will be a Japanese Animation festival from August 23rd until August 27th at the Dendy Cinemas.

According to the Dendy Opera Japanime Homepage, the festival will include the Australian premiere of Princess Mononoke.

"Japanime is proud to showcase the films of Studio Ghibli directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, a creative partnership which has produced the best loved and most critically acclaimed body of work in Japanese animation. Highlights of the Japanime program include the Australian Premieres of Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke, a profoundly human and spectacularly realised animated masterpiece along with Isao Takahata's gentle domestic comedy, My Neighbours the Yamadas."

"Japanime will also pay tribute to the grandfather of modern Japanese animation, Osamu Tezuka. Tesuka is well known to Australian audiences through his beloved creations Astro Boy and Kimba the White Lion. Tezuka's short films, television work and features based on his manga creations Blackjack and Jungle Taitei will feature in the Japanime program." - From the Dendy Opera Quays Japanime Festival Webpage
