Live-action Mushi-Shi at Sundance; Paprika at Rotterdam Int'l Film Festival

A number of Japanese films were selected for International Film festivals this week. Screenings and details are listed below.

Paprika: Satoshi Kon's Paprika, which will be released in North American theatres this May, will be screened at the Rotterdam International Film Festival. The film will be shown in the "Kings and Aces" category, which is reserved for "the masters of modern auteur cinema" according to the festival webpage.

Tekkon Kinkreet: Tekkon Kinkreet will be shown at the Berlin International Film Festival, better known as Berlinale. The film will be shown in the "Generation 14 Plus" category.

Mushi-Shi: Katsuhiro Ōtomo's live-action adaptation of Mushi-Shi (Bug Master) is currently screening at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. The film is being shown in the "Spectrum" category, which is dedicated to the "creative spirit" of filmmaking.

Sakuran: The live-action feature film based on the Sakuran manga by Anno Moyoko will be screened at the Berlin International Film Festival as a designated "special screening." The film opens in Japan on February 24th.
