New Fist of the North Star Anime Projects Greenlit
posted on by Egan Loo
New anime projects based on the Fist of the North Star fighting manga, as well as a collaboration with the Muscle Musical performance art group, were announced on March 14. The new projects were announced in a Tokyo preview screening of the most recent Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken) anime video and in a Hokuto 7 Project feature in Issue 15 of Shinchosha's Weekly Comic Bunch magazine. Altogether, seven projects — some previously announced and some new ones — will mark the upcoming 25th anniversary of Buronson and Tetsuo Hara's original manga serialization. (The first of these projects, the Shin Kyūseishu Densetsu Hokuto no Ken: Toki-den anime video pictured at right, will ship on March 26.)
Youkow Osada's Ten no Haoh - Hokuto no Ken Raoh Gaiden manga spinoff (pictured at left) will be animated as a series this fall. Unlike most of the previous Fist of the North Star anime, this story focuses not on the protagonist Kenshiro, but on the early life of his oldest brother and frequent enemy Raoh. Osada's manga ran from 2006 to 2007 in Comic Bunch magazine and was compiled into five volumes.
Satoshi Fumihara and the other creators behind The World of GOLDEN EGGS computer-graphics comedy anime will also create a "7 Artists" project. DD Hokuto no Ken, an anime with deformed ("two-heads-tall") Fist of the North Star characters, will be made. The Muscle Musical joint collaboration will be the last of the projects marking the manga's anniversary. The Muscle Musical group creates live performance art and have appeared in Las Vegas, Nevada in the recent Matsuri show.
