Last weekend, Tokyo's Nippon Budōkan arena hosted three concerts by composer Joe Hisaishi to commemorate his 25-year-long partnership with Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki. The concerts will be aired by the Japanese public broadcaster NHK on August 31. The concerts, which consisted of a 200-piece orchestra and 400 chorus singers, were announced in April. Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea opened in Japan on July 19.
NHK also announced that it is working on a documentary entitled "Nishi Ghibli" (West Ghibli) about Ghibli's new studio in western Japan to train aspiring animators.
