Manga-Based Live-Action Aishiteru ~Kaiyō~ Gets Sequel

posted on by Egan Loo
Minoru Itou's Aishiteru: Kizuna about families coping after boy kills another boy

The manga-based live-action Aishiteru Kaiyō television series will have a sequel special, Aishiteru: Kizuna this fall. Minoru Itou's original manga and the television series centered around two families' struggle to cope when a boy murders another boy.

Izumi Inamori will reprise her lead role of Satsuki, the killer's mother, while Masaki Okada (Otomen, Mahō Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto) will play the killer's younger brother Naoto who Satsuki raises. Osamu Mukai (Honey and Clover, Nodame Cantabile) will take over role of the killer Tomoya, who is now an adult. Asami Mizukawa (Nodame Cantabile, Dark Water) will play a new character named Kana Suma.

Itou drew Aishiteru: Kaiyō manga in Kodansha's Be Love magazine from 2006 to 2007, and Kodansha compiled the manga into two book volumes. The live-action television version ran in 2009, and it earned an average rating of 14.8%. (The final episode garnered 18.6%.) It won the top Grand Prix awards in the Tokyo Drama Awards and the International Drama Festival.

Itou then created the Aishiteru: Kizuna sequel in the Be Love magazine last year, and Kodansha also compiled the sequel into two volumes (pictured).
