Joshiraku Comedy Manga to End in September

posted on by Sarah Nelkin
Kōji Kumeta and Yasu's story of female rakugo performers concludes after 4 years

A promotional image for the October issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine revealed on Sunday that the magazine will publish the final chapter of Kōji Kumeta and Yasu's Joshiraku comedy manga on September 9. A message in the image states, “It's not getting canceled, OK!? It's a finale!”

The manga launched with Kumeta's story and Yasu's art in the inaugural issue of Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009. Kodansha bundled an anime DVD with the manga's fifth compiled book volume in February. The DVD reunites the staff and voice cast from the ongoing television anime series that premiered in July 2012.

Both the manga and the anime follow the behind-the-scenes dressing-room conversations of a group of female (joshi) Japanese verbal show (rakugo) performers.
