Momoko Sakura Draws Chibi Maruko-chan 1-Shot in Ribon Magazine

Shueisha to publish 21-page chapter in October

The official website for Shueisha's Ribon shōjo magazine has revealed that Momoko Sakura will draw a one-shot for her Chibi Maruko-chan manga in the magazine's November issue on sale on October 3. The heartwarming "Maruko, Matsutake wo Hoshigaru" (Maruko, Wanting Matsutake Mushrooms) chapter will be 21 pages long with a color opening.

Sakura serialized the original manga in Ribon from 1986 to 1996. She launched a four-panel version in a Japanese newspaper in 2007, and she ended that version in 2011.

The original manga inspired the Chibi Maruko-chan television anime that is consistently the #2 rated anime series after Sazae-san. The first anime series ran from 1990 to 1992, and the ongoing second series premiered in 1995. The 1,000th television anime episode aired last year.

The manga has also inspired several live-action specials and television series, including an upcoming special that will air on October 1.

Update: Only the opening page will be in color.
