Sayonara Ponytail to Perform Kill la Kill's 2nd Ending Theme

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Group also performed themes for tsuritama anime, live-action Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu, School Girl Complex

sayonara ponytail, the "mysterious" 12-member Japanese pop group, will contribute the song "Shin Sekai Kōkyōgaku" (New World Symphony) as the new ending theme song for the Kill la Kill television anime.

sayonara ponytail (SayoPoni) released its first independent album Momyu no Ki no Mukōgawa in 2011 before releasing its debut album Mahō no Melody with Epic Records Japan in 2012. The group consists of manga artists and musicians, and has released several albums bundled with original manga.

The group has also performed themes for the tsuritama anime series and the Kyō, Koi o Hajimemasu and School Girl Complex live-action films.

GARNiDELiA, the duo formed by female vocalist MARIA and composer Toku, is contributing the song "ambiguous" as the new opening theme.

The battle action anime Kill la Kill reunites several production staff members from Gurren Lagann: director Hiroyuki Imaishi, series script supervisor/writer Kazuki Nakashima, character designer Sushio (key animator/animation director on Gurren Lagann), and the animation Studio Trigger (co-founded by several former Gurren Lagann staffers).

The story is set in Honnōji Academy, a high school where the student council president Satsuki Kiryūin (voiced by Ryōka Yuzuki) rules by force. Wielding a giant Basami scissors sword, the wandering transfer student Ryūko Matoi (Ami Koshimizu) brings about upheaval on the campus. Ryūko searches for the mysterious figure who caused her father's death.

Aniplex of America licensed the series for release on home video, and the company is streaming the series on the Aniplex Channel, Crunchyroll, Daisuki, and Hulu hours after it airs in Japan.
