Manga Author Appearances Today and Thursday

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Garo writer Seiichi Hayashi will appear at London's Gosh! comics tonight, and Norwich's Sainsbury Insitute on Thursday, coinciding with launch of new translation of his book.

Following Tuesday's appearance by manga author Seiichi Hayashi at London's Japan Foundation, he will appear at two other live events tonight (Wednesday July 2) and Thursday, details below.

On Wednesday July 2, Hayashi will appear at London's Gosh! comics shop in Berwick Street (directions) for 'an evening of conversation and music,' together with art historian Ryan Holmberg. According to the event page, 'the event kicks off between 7-9pm and will conclude with Seiichi Hayashi signing copies of the book. If you can't make it to the event and would like us to put a copy aside for you simply drop us a line at [email protected].'

On Thursday July 3, Hayashi and Holmberg will appear in conversation at Norwich's Sainsbury Institute (map). The event, which begins at 6 p.m., is free but it needs to be booked here.

Hayashi is a veteran of the alternative manga magazine Garo, and this week's events coincide with the British publisher Breakdown Press releasing a translation of Hayashi's manga Flowering Harbour. The company describes the manga as 'a love story filtered through the aesthetics of enka music, known informally as Japanese blues.' The book has not previously been released in English. Hayashi wrote a new introduction for this edition.
