The video streaming service Netflix has confirmed that it added the 3D animated film Space Pirate Captain Harlock to the service on Friday. The service has also added the ongoing Hunter x Hunter television anime series to its line-up.

The film adaptation of Leiji Matsumoto's Captain Harlock manga remakes the classic anime Space Pirate Captain Harlock with Toei Animation's highest production budget ever at the equivalent of more than 30 million U.S. dollars. Shun Oguri and Haruma Miura star as the title pirate and the new character Yama, respectively.

The film opened in Japan last September 7, in France on December 25, and in Italy on January 1. The film is among the most successful Japanese films ever screened in Italy, earning about US$6.8 million by the end of January. The film also was screened out of competition at the 70th Venice International Film Festival last year. More than 80 countries and regions have sent offers to Toei Animation to distribute Space Pirate Captain Harlock. The film won the best international animated feature award at the fifth annual 3D Create Arts Awards in January.

Netflix had revealed in May that it would stream the film in the United States and in the United Kingdom starting on August 1. The site is streaming the film with Japanese or Spanish audio and with English or Spanish subtitles.

Netflix is streaming the first 100 episodes of Hunter x Hunter with Japanese audio and English and Spanish subtitles. Crunchyroll is streaming the series in various countries as it airs.
