New cable channel for Hong Kong, South East Asia offers Japanese content

The Nippon TV Network Corporation, along with Sony Pictures Television, launched a joint venture in Singapore to create the GEM Asia channel, a new subscription pay cable channel that will be available in Hong Kong and South East Asian territories. The channel will focus on Japanese content, but will also broadcast Chinese, Taiwanese, Hong Kong, and South Korean dramas and variety shows.

Sony Pictures Television already owns cable channels broadcasting in the South East Asian territory, including Animax Asia (focusing on anime), AXN Asia, Sony Channel Asia (North American programs), ONE TV (Korean programs), and BeTV.

Nippon TV initially plans to offer at least 500 hours worth of Japanese content to the channel.
