Giant Killing Soccer Manga Goes on Hiatus

42nd compiled book volume ships October 21

This year's 43rd issue of Kodansha's Weekly Morning magazine announced on Wednesday that Masaya Tsunamoto and Tsujitomo's Giant Killing soccer manga is going on hiatus.

The same issue announced that Nichijou's Keiichi Arawi will be launching a new series titled CITY in the next issue on September 29.

Weekly Morning first published Giant Killing in 2007. The first compiled book volume shipped in April 2007, and the 41st and most recent volume shipped on July 22. The 42nd volume will ship on October 21.

The series inspired a television anime in 2010, which Crunchyroll streamed as it aired in Japan. Crunchyroll eventually removed the anime from its site in November 2012. The company describes the series:

Experiencing a long streak of poor performances for several years in the Japanese professional football league, the East Tokyo United (ETU) hires Takeshi Tatsumi as manager to try to break the curse.

Studio DEEN animated the 26-episode series. Yuu Kou (Chrono Crusade, Loveless, Monochrome Factor, Umi Monogatari ~Anata ga Ite Kureta Koto~) directed, and Toshifumi Kawase (When They Cry - Higurashi, The Law of Ueki) oversaw the scripts.
