Home Media Magazine reported on Wednesday that Paramount Pictures' live-action Ghost in the Shell film debuted with the second highest sales on NPD Videoscan's national home video (DVD and Blu-ray Disc) sales charts in the United States last week. The film also ranked #2 on the dedicated Blu-Ray Disc sales chart and on Home Media Magazine's list of top rentals.
On the sales charts, the film ranked behind Dreamworks' Boss Baby, which shipped on home video on the same day. Ghost in the Shell sold about 40.8% of Boss Baby's total home video units sold.
Paramount stated that Ultra HD Blu-Ray Disc sales accounted for 11.4% of the film's first-week unit sales, the highest percentage to date for films that earned more than US$5 million at theaters.
Ghost in the Shell earned US$18,676,033 in its debut weekend in the United States. The film has an estimated total gross of US$40,563,557 in the United States, and an estimated global total of US$169,801,921.
