3-episode OVA retells famous matches in franchise

Hong Kong content distributor MediaLink Entertainment Limited announced on Thursday that it will screen all three original video anime (OVA) in the Tennis no Ōjisama BEST GAMES!! project in Hong Kong this Saturday and Sunday. MediaLink is streaming a Chinese-subtitled trailer for the third OVA, which features the Shūsuke Fuji vs. Akaya Kirihara match.

The OVA project retells the story of the franchise's top matches. The first OVA, which features a match between Tezuka and Atobe from the Kantō Tournament, opened in a limited screening in Japanese theaters in August 2018.

The second OVA features two doubles matches: the first match is Shuichiro Oishi and Eiji Kikumaru's game against Hiroshi Yagyū and Masaharu Niō, while the second match is Ryō Shishido and Chōtarō Otori's game against Sahadaru Inui and Kaoru Kaidō. The OVA screened in Japanese theaters for two weeks in April 2019.

The third OVA features a match between Shūsuke Fuji and Akaya Kirihara from the Kantō Tournament. It screened in theaters last November.

Keiichiro Kawaguchi (Mayo Chiki!, Hayate the Combat Butler) directed the project at M.S.C. Mitsutaka Hirota (The Prince of Tennis II, The Prince of Tennis II OVA vs. Genius 10) returned to handle series composition and write the scripts. Akiharu Ishii again designed the characters, and Cher Watanabe returned to compose the music.

Takeshi Konomi's The Prince of Tennis and The New Prince of Tennis manga are also inspiring a new anime film and series. The film, titled Ryōma! Shinsei Gekijōban Tennis no Ōji-sama (Ryōma! Rebirth Movie The Prince of Tennis) will open in 2021. The film features a completely original story that takes place in the three-month time period between the events at the end of the The Prince of Tennis manga and the start of The New Prince of Tennis manga. The new series is titled The New Prince of Tennis: Hyotei vs Rikkai Game of Future, and it will tell an original story featuring "Hyōtei vs. Rikkai."
