What's It About?

country-life

Rienna Fonde was meant to marry a crown prince, but after he cast her aside for the so-called saint, she was disowned by her own father. Abandoned and alone, she moves to Fostine, a lush, peaceful countryside, where she puts the knowledge from her past life to good use. After years of country living, Rienna has become a renowned farmer and loves her new life. But then, a mysterious farming tool brings a tall, handsome man to her doorstep. Will this man ruin her country life or enrich it?

Country Life with His Sexy Majesty has story by 2B and art by SEOLAM, based on a work by Irui. English localization is done by Kiwivine. Published by TAPAS ENTERTAINMENT 2025 (December 15, 2025).

Country Life with His Sexy Majesty does not, on the surface, appear to be doing anything all that different from the villainess isekai that came before it. Rienna is a Korean woman reborn as the villainess of a novel she read, the heroine of said novel, Kang Sena, is also from Korea, and because of her Rienna gets denounced loudly and in public. Naturally, right at the moment of denunciation, Rienna remembers her prior life as well as the novel, so she knows that she's about to be written out of the narrative. It's not surprising to see her end up in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a ramshackle house and a piece of land to her name. But Rienna, dear reader, has something going for her that your average villainess does not: Rienna was a student at an agricultural college. She doesn't need magic to make her farming life happen.

But wait, there's more! Not only do Rienna's top-notch modern farming methods produce the best produce anyone has ever seen, but she stumbles (literally) upon a rusty old hoe that, when she picks it up, turns out to be a magic sword in disguise! And it's on the run (?) from Carmine, the handsome young emperor of the nation! Who is also the grandson of the cantankerous old woman who governs the province Rienna lives in! It's an avalanche of cosmic coincidences all taken with zero real gravity, because this is a story that knows it's a parody and loves that about itself. From Rienna consistently getting the better of Carmine to the magic sword's constant blather to Carmine's frustration, this is very, very funny.

Or at least, it mostly is. Chapters seven and eight attempt to bring things back to more serious ground by returning Rienna's erstwhile fiancé Prince David to the story, along with Sena, and while I appreciate that there would be real consequences for his actions (Rienna being the daughter of a duke and all), it still feels too abrupt, like reading pages from The Remarried Empress stuck in the middle of Beware the Villainess. It does give Rienna a chance to show off her strength, though, in a way that isn't just skewering Carmine's attempted swagger, so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt to see how things go. After all, this is a richly colored, very silly isekai story about growing the perfect apple. That's different enough that it deserves a chance.
