I am so curious if, due to how catalogs of work can sometimes get jumbled in the licensing process, Group Chat NTR: My Girlfriend's Sex Tape is actually an earlier work from the mangaka/doujin circle Sora Paprika. They have a fair number of doujin titles under their belt and some of the other new-to-English audience releases even seem to be trending on publisher Irodori Comic's website. By all accounts, Sora Paprika appears to be a successful hentai artist, which is why I'm so surprised that Group Chat NTR: My Girlfriend's Sex Tape is not very good.

Coming in at 47 pages, this short read features characters whose designs are as lacking as their motivations, and this lack of detail is only rivaled by the plot. Group Chat NTR follows a same-face Protag-kun who discovers that his girlfriend is cheating on him with a member of a college club that he doesn't actively attend via the club's group chat. He never confronts either his girlfriend or his classmate about this development, they never acknowledge this to him, and there's no functional resolution to this “plot.” This is solely a work where a reader can map themselves onto the protagonist and voyeuristically experience what it would be like to have a partner cheat on you.

As this is a pretty common kink, there are a lot of stories that explore this theme better than Group Chat NTR and I wish it did anything to even begin to distinguish itself from the pack. This story could have been told from the reader's POV so it leans even further into the self-insert experience, the sex acts featured in this work could be more than the fairly vanilla fare featured when you remove the cheating element; hell, I'd even settle for the leading lady having any kind of overt enthusiasm for infidelity! Erotica that focus on taboo subject matters are appealing because they're transgressive and explore ideas that aren't polite to delve into. Group Chat NTR doesn't explore what makes cuckoldry so arousing to so many and it more feels like it's used as an interchangeable catalyst for some banal sex scenes.

That being said, even as the dialogue made my eyes glaze over, the translation by Aiko seems perfectly serviceable and full color releases are rare enough that I'm sure someone will be happy that Group Chat NTR is entirely in color. If you read this and genuinely enjoy it, please reach out to me and let me know why; I struggle to find anything appealing or that hasn't been done better elsewhere within this work.

I feel nothing but sympathy for the main point of view character in the story. NTR is always a tricky genre to talk about because, depending on how the story is presented, I find myself either fully indulging in the hot taboo sexual encounters or feeling unequivocally bad for the person that is getting cucked. Group Chat NTR definitely leans towards the latter and I'm not sure I'd be able to recommend this to anybody unless they have a very strong humiliation kink. Either you self insert as the person stealing the girlfriend or you want to self insert as the guy who is getting his girlfriend stolen. What makes this story stand out a little bit isn't its presentation.

As the title implies, a lot of the story is told from the perspective of the main character going through messages on a group chat that he's in with other guys. Turns out one of those guys is bragging and sharing private videos of his female conquest who just happens to be our main character's ditzy girlfriend. It's a fun gimmick to play with in a panel layout that really does try to emphasize the soul crushing humiliation. Honestly, it would probably be one of the better NTR stories that I've read if it wasn't for the fact that the art could've been a lot stronger. Outside of some specific shots, the shading and colors feels so flat and unappealing in a lot of places. Even during the intense sex scenes, things feel exaggerated in a way that isn't super appealing with a leaning on very brown and muddy colors. I can understand the situation being hard to look at from a humiliation perspective, but honestly, it was more hard to look at from a visual one. I would say check it out if you really want to see somebody break down in almost a comedic way by the end, but aside from that, I think there are more appealing stories with similar setups that can get the job done.
