This comic begins with an actual story! That alone sets Saint Lily's Magical Girls 3 -Fusion- above other 18+ comics. It doesn't take that much to give characters some personality, honestly. We begin here with the existence of a magical girl who, in her daily life, is an archetype of an admirable and admired upper-class student at a private girls' academy. We meet her as she continues a battle against the minions of an evil overlord—the main story of which is mentioned in narrative commentary. A sex pest of a dude and Lily end up fusing through magical plot complications, which shift Lily's desire into overdrive. She has sex with herself, her beloved kouhai, and with her arch-enemy. All the sex is full of exploding bodily fluids and often looks exhausting—possibly painful, rather than pleasurable, but your mileage may vary.

But the fact that the story bothers with a plot, and even gives the loser sex criminal dude a name, three panels of character development, then some narrative panels so we can't forget about him, makes this more interesting than a lot of the banal (I desperately want to say “pump-and-dump”) porn that I've read over the years.

Like the story, Elidora's art takes some time to actually develop the world beyond the sex scenes, which again makes me more inclined to like this. There is a school, Lily's room, the bad guys have a ship/HQ/something with a sex machine (see above about “exhausting, possibly painful”). There's something to look at other than secondary sexual characteristics and something to read, beyond sex noises. I guess if you just want to use this as motivation, maybe that's not so meaningful, but for something to read in order to review, it's a relief.

The Irodori team did a nice job with reproduction, translation, etc., and the opening just felt so light and normal that I enjoyed this enough that I could be convinced to read more by Elidora.

To begin this review, I should note that Eltoria's Saint Lily's Magical Girls 3 -Fusion- focuses on some gender themes that I, as a cisman, am likely unable to fully appreciate or comment on. However, as a person who found out what a “Grungler” is a couple of months ago and that I apparently am one, I think I can give this series a fair shake! In short, Saint Lily's Magical Girls 3 -Fusion- is a combo body possession/corruption story with a magical girl backdrop and some lesbianism and futanari kinks sprinkled in for good measure, with all of these elements being serviceable but not quite coming together as a cohesive whole.

Like other works in Elotria's Saint Lily's Magical Girls franchise, -Fusion- features a magical girl that symbolizes purity succumbing to sexual temptations and abandoning her past life for one of wanton sexual fulfillment. What distinguishes -Fusion- from other works in the genre is that the magical character in question, Lily Union, has fusion powers that accidentally cause her to be possessed by the spirit of a local male pervert. This work is definitely touching on gender norms and themes of gender identity, with Lily not being able to be sexually expressive until a man is put in control of her body, but these ideas aren't explored much beyond what's baked into this premise. What drives the plot forward after this inciting event is the man possessing Lilly getting more control over her with every orgasm, which leads to Lily being falsely captured by the evil organization she's been fighting and subjected to some dub con sexual torment.

If you've made it this far into this review, chances are you already know if this doujin is for you or not, as a lot of this subject matter tends to either be a hard no or a hard yes for potential readers. The only other points I can think to add are noting that Eltoria's art and character designs continue to be on the upswing with this installment, though the paneling and story pacing are still a little rough. Also, while the translation and lettering aren't stellar, Itsuki and Happy Negi both do a good enough job, respectively, as to not detract from the work.

Eltoria's Saint Lily's Magical Girls 3 -Fusion- is not great, but top-tier adult works dealing in these subject matters are fewer and further between than they ought to be. The nicest thing I can say about it is that it's worth reading if you need one of these to tide you over until the next great, gender focused, adult doujinshi comes around.

This is probably the first adult story in this guide that I can just sum up as “confusing.” Magical girls stories usually have a lot of lore to them despite the relatively simple setups, and it's not uncommon for that lore to be used as an impetus for adult media like this in order to portray specific scenarios. In this case, this is very much a body swap corruption story using magical girl powers. I've read a few of those before but I don't think I've ever read one that has been as complicated as this one to a genuinely distracting degree.

It starts off relatively fine with a pure and righteous magical girl doing her duties. Then she accidentally absorbs a criminal pervert…who takes over her body…but not full because he also corrupts her personality…and the girl's personality isn't aware of the fact that she is being taken over? Then it's established that her feeling pleasure allows the guy to hold control over her body for some reason?. There's a lot of stuff going on despite how incredibly short the story is and there's little to no explanation for why things happen. Some of the characters will just say things or explain things as if I'm supposed to know what's going on and that happens sometimes right before or right in the middle of the sex scenes. It would be one thing if the sex scenes were enough to distract me from the incredibly convoluted set ups, but they're just not.

The sex scenes are either too short, poorly framed or incredibly basic to feel worth it, which is probably why my brain ends up latching onto specifically what the characters are saying. This book genuinely feels like a first draft or first attempt at writing a story that had a lot of specific parts in it, but there was no discussion on how to blend any of those parts together. Or at best it feels like a part two to a story that I was never able to read the part one of. This is definitely one of the least interesting and enjoyable volumes on this guide that I think you can definitively skip.
