The dvds are now out and you can compare the dub with the sub. What do you guys think about the dub?
I haven't bought the dvds but I've seen a few clips of the Japanese version. The only thing I could say right now is that the intro, and conan and jimmy's voice are better in the dub. Conan's voice in the Japanese version is too deep for an 8-year-old, while Jimmy sounds like a chick. But I don't count since I'm a dub person. Even if the dub is going to be considered by fans as a good dub or better than the original, it's a shame that it couldn't be as big a hit as it could've become. They should show it earlier, maybe in Toonami. I don't think there'll be a lot of edits. |

I like the dub a lot. The voices of Conan and Jimmy are perfect and the OP and ED songs are awesome in English. I have the DVDs but I haven't heard the JP version. Though I can't imagine it being any better.

Um...The first episode alone is about a decapitation. The parents would reeeeally love that.
It would also seem wierd to have to watch TV show about people being "destroyed". |

Even though they started using death,kill, etc. in the later seasons, they still used that stupid HFIL.

I have to agree that Conan sounds like a girl in the japanese dub. Which is annoying.
Can you at least give a reason why it sucks? |

 I hate it
for many reasons ( personal ) : First : I HATE THE NAMES , for God sake Shinichi turns to Jimmy !!!! , and if you watched or read conan's manga you'll find that there are many cases which are related with the charectars name's , how are they going to explain it in the english dubs ?!?!?!?! Secound : Japaness op/ed are much cooler than the english ( they are singed by famous Japaness singers like Kuraki Mai , Deen , Zard , ...etc ) Thired : there are sooooooo much voilent in this anime how are they going to deal with this big problem without missing with the original story ?!?!?! ( I've hared that english dubs cut or don't show voilence scenes ) Fourth : What is with the title name anyway ( case closed ) what does it mean ?!?!?!? actually a lot of conan fans where shoked with this title because it always have been detective conan ( metantie conan ) so why change it !!!!!!!!!! *darkhunter : I have to agree that Conan sounds like a girl in the japanese dub. You've only heard about the name changes but I don't think you've ever seen the dub. The dub is uncut. They also release dvds with both the dub and sub. |

Are you sure it's Shinichi & not Conan that sounds like a chick because Conan is, as is commonly done here with small boys, voiced by a chick while Shinichi is Kappei Yamaguchi--Inuyasha, Ranma, etc. Heiji Hattori is Ryo Horikawa-DBZ/Vegeta & Saint Seiya/Shun Andromeda. George/Genta is Wataru Takagi-Onizuka/GTO, Valgaav/Slayers & Koshi Rikdo/Excel Saga. Richard Moore/Kogourou Mouri is Akira Kamiya-Kenshiro/Fist of the North Star, Roy Focker/Macross.
The most annoying thing about the dvds is they don't give us the Japanese cast--I tried every angle I could think of & can't get them but we also don't get the original closing so we can't even check the kanji. The name changes are annoying, but at least if one sets up for Japanese with subtitles & then pops over to English, one gets the Japanese names so internet web searches for V.A.'s help fill in some of the gaps of who's guesting in some eps. I didn't really notice that much cut. More annoying is the little "Reversioned by Funimation" suggesting the run roughshod over the Japanese original version attitude. Eps 53 & 54 are actually an hour-long ep broken up & they're viewing cherry blossoms & get a flat so they set out walking & come across a Japanese Temple. After commenting in it being a Japanese Temple, they still change the name in English from the Japanese name. |

Wow, give them a great series and they frown at it. Give them something that is coming out faster then the DVDs, they cry about it. Give people something that cost less then a DVD at a price of a cut here and there without really missing up the storyline, and they wonder why I have over 200 anime DVD, a good part of them that was on the Cartoon Network at some point.
If you can't buy the DVDs, deal with it, or if you can buy them/can't deal with it, but is willing to drive someone nuts to buy it, buy them. Thank god I'm not in the anime biz. Besides, I'm pretty sure that this was aimed at the Toonami maket before it got bump to it Saturday spot.
