Why can't we have signatures? I know that people tend to use images in signatures, but could signatures be allowed if a policy was put into place that prevented the use of images in them? That would eliminate any problems of the page loading slowly due to all the images.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because ANN has always tried to present itself as a professional news site, not just another fan site. Signatures, are an eyesore, would require strict moderation for content, and are certainly not present in any "comments" section of any other professional news site.

That's pretty much it exactly. Though there's also the matter of readability, as having these intrusive clusters of text and images at the bottom of every post makes it harder to quickly and easily view the actual content of said posts, and the potentially high number of images needing to be loaded for signatures could cause slower connections to bog down to unreasonable levels. |
