Sorry if this has been done before. Just out of curiosity what did you think of Negima Magister Magi vol 3. I really liked it since it has some action and an interesting turn in the story. I didn't expect that that girl would be a wizard. how about you did you like it?

Negima is my absolute favorite series ever. None of the other ones i've read even comes close to how much i like Negima. I know all the girls names and numbers, lol.
Anyways, thats just to show that my view might be a TAD bias. Thoughts on volume 3: I like it a lot, i liked Volume 2 more, but only because it seemed to feature a larger range of characters, but it was still the carefree intro before the real plot started spoiler[though i dont believe it actually starts until the middle of book 4...where Konoka gets captured by monkeys] I liked this one because it finally started moving into a part of the series where we notice that ALL the girls are unique and strange in their own way, and that the girls in his class aren't quite normal, or even close to it...plus the contracts start in this book, and they're a pretty big part of the series. I like the whole talking pet ermine thing, he adds a bit of humor to the series. The Kaede scene was VERY important imo because after that, Negi basically realizes he can't run away, and his attitude completely changes as you can see. This kinda gives us a view of what the rest of the series is gonna be like, too. Not just a bunch of background stories on each of the girls like it seemed to be going with volumes 1 and 2. And in the Kaede description, it mentions how the best part of Negima is when they start the school field trip in volume 4, and yea, i would have to agree... Can't wait for volume 4! |

The translation of book 3 was horrible. Oh, and if you didn't expect that Evangeline was a mage, wait til book 6 for another suprise. Also, all the volumes after this have at least one chapter of action.

In the third volume, Negi's dad is called the "Southern Master". He was called the Thousand Master in the Japanese version. It's pretty weird since in the 1st and 2nd volume, they call him the Thousand Master. But that's a change I can ignore.

In addition to the Southern Master thing, they mixed up Chachazero and called her Chachamaru and they called Negi's staff a wand. There were also a few more incosistancies. They used wizard instead of mage like in the previous volumes. Kamo called Negi "big brother", but Asuna "Ane-san". They changed the spell chanting so the spells are only in English. They reduced Evangeline's crush on the Thousand Master. Also there are a few more smaller translation changes that I noticed.
Also about the book 6 thing: Yes. |

wow that is a lot of stuff...
hopefully they'll do a better job with the 4th. I'm just glad they printed the books, though. Even if its not perfect. Oh and on a semi-related note, the 8th book is out in Japan now, so im gonna pick that up soon when i go to the import book store near me. while we're on the Negima topic, anything anyone wants to talk about? We really need an English Negima or Akamatsu forum... |

According to the Negima board at another site I go to, English volume 4 will be translated by the same guy as volume 3, but after that the guy is to be fired.

Despite dislikeing anything Akamatsu did in the past, I enjoyed Negima volume 1. The characters were much more likable, and his storytelling was less cluttered and didn't rely on fanservice gags as much (still a bit too much though). I'm not quite as enthusiastic about the series now, but it's still fun to read (and I can just borrow them). I actually liked the weasle (ermine; whatever, its a long rat anyway you say it), especially how it was drawn. The rest of the volume wasn't too exciting, as the action bits dragged and the whole enemy was pretty boring, but there was enough there in characters and bits of humor to make it a fun read.

I rather like negima, unlike his other works. Love hina was ok but negima was much better.

Actually it's a total screw up, because they switch translater and the japenese word for thousand sound a lot like southern. But yea it's essential to know note that he's the thousand master since it's mention in the first two volume. Well at least it's more entertaining than Bleach Vol. 3. |

I just noticed that in Volumes 1 and 2 they got Chachamaru's last name wrong. Instead of Karakuri, they put Rakuso.
