Group A-1
Light Yagami vs. L, Death Note
vs.
Blast vs. Trapnest, NANA

Light and L

These guys are so much better it ain't funny.

Group A-2
Brandon Heat vs. Harry McDowell, Gungrave
vs.
Asuna Kagurazaka vs. Ayaka Yukihiro, Negima franchise

Harry and Brandon

Another no contest, although I am peeved that many people are voting for the Negima entry because they know it better. All you have to do is give one fleeting thought to Harry and Brandon and the answer is obvious.

Group A-3
Dragons of Heaven vs. Dragons of Earth, X TV
vs.
Sayaka Miki vs. Kyoko Sakura, Puella Magi Madoka Magika

Dragons of Heaven and Dragons of Earth

I love Puella Magi Madoka Magica to bits, but the rivalry presented there is just not very strong. The show can't win them all.

Group A-4
Ichigo Kurosaki vs. Renji Ibari, Bleach
vs.
Sena Kobayakawa vs. Seijuro Shin, Eyeshield 21

Sena Kobayakawa and Seijuro Shin

Renji and Ichigo are only rivals for a short time and then Renji gets demoted out of the main cast as newer allies and adversaries pop up. Honestly, the various Espada and Byakuya all had far superior rivalries with Ichigo than Renji.

Group A-5
Spike Spiegel vs. Vicious, Cowboy Bebop
vs.
Himura Kenshin vs. Aoshi, Ruroni Kenshin

Spike and Vicious

They aren't all that good - too little screentime together for one thing - but I'm picking them to be slightly better than Kenshin and Aoshi.

Group A-6
Humans vs. Shiki, Shiki
vs.
Utena Tenjou vs. Ohtori Student Council, Revolutionary Girl Utena

Utena and Student Council

This is unashamedly an anti-Shiki vote.

Group A-7
Makoto Mizuhara vs. Katsuhiro Jinnai, El Hazard franchise
vs.
Togame vs. Princess Hitei, Katanagatari

Makoto Mizuhara and Katsuhiro Jinnai

A specific spoiler for Katanagatari is the reason behind my vote. Won't get into any more details because, hello, spoilers.

Group A-8
Kimimaro Yoga vs. Soichiro Mikuni, C: The Money of Soul. .
vs.
Team Inuyasha vs. Naraku, Inuyasha franchise

Team Inuyasha and Naraku

The rivalry between Yoga and Mikuni was so atrociously handled that I'm surprised such a toxic entry made it into the tournament. If I had been paying attention I would have voted against them in the nominations phase.

Group A-9
Alucard vs. Alexander Anderson, Hellsing franchise
vs.
Marionettes vs. Saber Dolls, Saber Marionette J

Alucard and Alexander

They're just so awesome, and I haven't seen a good argument for Saber Marionette J.

Group A-10
Akito Hayami vs. Naozumi Kamura, Kodocha
vs.
Saki Miyanaga vs. Koromo Amae, Saki

Miyanaga and Koromo Amae

Both rivalries seem weak (if the Guide entries are anything to go by), so coin toss time.

Group A-11
Seishu Prefab Team vs. Coach Daimon, Cross Game
vs.
Vesper vs. Saint, Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden

Vesper and Saint

The other rivalry was too short and was completely inconsequential after a certain point. Plus, Vesper and Saint do sound interesting.

Group A-12
San vs. Lady Eboshi, Princess Mononoke
vs.
Exorcists vs. The Noah, D Gray Man

Exorcists and The Noah

Not that impressed by Lady Eboshi and San, to be perfectly honest.

Group A-13
Shizuo Heiwajima vs. Izaya Orihara, Durarara!!
vs.
Sekai Saionji vs. Kotonoha Katsura, School Days

Sekai Saionji and Kotonoha Katsura

Shizuo and Izaya are just so much fun to watch, but they aren't really a great rivalry, especially not when compared to "nice boat".

Group A-14
Edward Elric vs. Scar, Fullmetal Alchemist franchise
vs.
”Thunder General” Claudette vs. Leina Vance, Queen’s Blade

Edward Elric and Scar

I am shocked and a little impressed that Queen's Blade seems to have had an actual plot. However, Edward and Scar have a good rivalry, even when spoiler[they eventually work together.]

Group A-15
Team Dai-Gurren vs. Anti-Spiral, Gurren Lagann
vs.
Jomy Marcus Shin vs. Keith Anyan, Toward The Terra franchise

Jomy Marcus Shin and Keith Anyan

So TTGL has an "epic" war between the two factions. Big whoop. I'll go for a rivalry that actually makes a little more sense.

Group A-16
Dark Mousy vs. Krad, D.N. Angel
vs.
Arika Yumemiya vs. Nina Wang, My-Otome

Arika Yumemiya and Nina Wang

The other matchup looked a little weak, and I'm a sucker for long and complicated Guide entries. Was that a joke? You decide.

Group A-1
Light Yagami vs. L, Death Note
vs.
Blast vs. Trapnest, NANA

Voting for: Light Yagami vs. L

Nothing against Nana, but this is one of those cases where an extremely good argument would be necessary in order to convince me that the Light vs. L rivalry, which was literally the driving force of its respective show, is weaker or otherwise inferior in comparison.

Group A-2
Brandon Heat vs. Harry McDowell, Gungrave
vs.
Asuna Kagurazaka vs. Ayaka Yukihiro, Negima franchise

Voting for: Brandon Heat vs. Harry McDowell

Going by the guide entry and what I've heard about it before, this one just sounds a lot more interesting. Comedic rivalries aren't too bad in my book but they'll rarely be my first choice throughout this tournament.

Group A-3
Dragons of Heaven vs. Dragons of Earth, X TV
vs.
Sayaka Miki vs. Kyoko Sakura, Puella Magi Madoka Magika

Voting for: Sayaka Miki vs. Kyoko Sakura

Haven't been in the right mood to watch Madoka yet and my familiarity with all things X-related is rather vague, so I simply flipped a coin and this was the result. Wouldn't particularly mind either outcome though.

Group A-4
Ichigo Kurosaki vs. Renji Ibari, Bleach
vs.
Sena Kobayakawa vs. Seijuro Shin, Eyeshield 21

Voting for: Ichigo Kurosaki vs. Renji Ibari

While there have been a few good arguments against this rivalry, I haven't seen too many good arguments in favor of the alternative. Meaning: this is just going to be another semi-random coin toss.

Group A-5
Spike Spiegel vs. Vicious, Cowboy Bebop
vs.
Himura Kenshin vs. Aoshi, Ruroni Kenshin

Voting for: Spike Spiegel vs. Vicious

Kenshin's and Aoshi's rivalry did give us some of the better episodes of that particular show, which is absolutely worth recognizing at this point in time, but even then I cannot say they are equal or superior to Spike versus Vicious.

Group A-6
Humans vs. Shiki, Shiki
vs.
Utena Tenjou vs. Ohtori Student Council, Revolutionary Girl Utena

Voting for: Humans vs. Shiki

Now this is a hard one for me. Revolutionary Girl Utena is a much better series than Shiki, no question about that, but...the rivalries involved are essentially restricted to an individual level. The Student Council is ostensibly opposed to Utena and yet never goes out of its way to promote any decisive action against her. It just so happens that its members find their own personal reasons to fight for the power to revolutionize to the world and fulfill their misguided dreams, but such a thing doesn't really count as collective action coming from an overarching organization. No, not even if you were to consider the person who is actually manipulating everything and everyone from behind the scenes.

Don't get me wrong. Many of those specific encounters are wonderful to watch, full of emotional intensity and often enjoying some great audiovisual choreography, but they are rather fleeting. In fact, I would even be far more willing to support any of the rivalries between Utena and each of the individual duelists than one between her and a paper-thin organization.

On the other hand, Shiki definitely portrayed an interesting example of a central rivalry between more or less active factions and also dealt with a few decent personal animosities along the way. Again, the overall quality of the show can certainly be considered inferior, but...it certainly established a far more impressive standard for rivalries between organized groups of people on a collective level. For that reason, I prefer to give them my vote.

Group A-7
Makoto Mizuhara vs. Katsuhiro Jinnai, El Hazard franchise
vs.
Togame vs. Princess Hitei, Katanagatari

Voting for: Togame vs. Princess Hitei

While I don't think either one should have too much staying power, I do think this one is relatively unique and worth moving on to the next round, in light of some fairly interesting comments I've read about it.

Group A-8
Kimimaro Yoga vs. Soichiro Mikuni, C: The Money of Soul
vs.
Team Inuyasha vs. Naraku, Inuyasha franchise

Voting for: Kimimaro Yoga vs. Soichiro Mikuni

Against my better judgement, I'm going with the better concept even if its execution appears to be lacking, at least if what others have already mentioned is true. Then again, I am not particularly concerned about either result here.

Group A-9
Alucard vs. Alexander Anderson, Hellsing franchise
vs.
Marionettes vs. Saber Dolls, Saber Marionette J

Voting for: Alucard vs. Alexander Anderson

Not going to lie...this is entirely based on style over substance. The alternative wasn't that bad, in all honesty, but not necessarily memorable enough to deserve my vote after all these years either.

Group A-10
Akito Hayami vs. Naozumi Kamura, Kodocha
vs.
Saki Miyanaga vs. Koromo Amae, Saki

Voting for: Akito Hayami vs. Naozumi Kamura

I'm not really sure about either one, but I'll give my current pick the benefit of the doubt this time.

Group A-11
Seishu Prefab Team vs. Coach Daimon, Cross Game
vs.
Vesper vs. Saint, Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden

Voting for: Vesper vs. Saint

While Cross Game still deserves some credit here, I am willing to support what appears to be the rivalry with some of the better arguments at its side.

Group A-12
San vs. Lady Eboshi, Princess Mononoke
vs.
Exorcists vs. The Noah, D Gray Man

Voting for: San vs. Lady Eboshi

There's practically no contest. I've come to grudgingly respect the concept and execution behind this rivalry, even though I might not necessarily be the biggest fan of its individual components in the grand scheme of things.

Group A-13
Shizuo Heiwajima vs. Izaya Orihara, Durarara!!
vs.
Sekai Saionji vs. Kotonoha Katsura, School Days

Voting for: Shizuo Heiwajima vs. Izaya Orihara

School Days did have a memorable ending, though not necessarily for a good reason, but I never really considered this to be much of an active rivalry when Kotonoha seemed to be comparatively passive and/or reactive, at least until the final part of the series. There certainly was some degree of competition at one point or another, but it felt like less of an actual fight between two people and more of a situation where their common interest in Makoto inevitably pulled them apart. Their final moments were impressive, no doubt, but I would have wanted to see a different build-up to that instead of what we got.

Group A-14
Edward Elric vs. Scar, Fullmetal Alchemist franchise
vs.
”Thunder General” Claudette vs. Leina Vance, Queen’s Blade

Voting for: Edward Elric vs. Scar

Let's just say I haven't heard or seen anything too interesting about Queen's Blade, both in general and in terms of rivalries in particular. Leaving all the ridiculous boobs aside, even the guide entry makes this sound too much "by the book" to hold my interest for long. Regardless, the choice was far too easy.

Group A-15
Team Dai-Gurren vs. Anti-Spiral, Gurren Lagann
vs.
Jomy Marcus Shin vs. Keith Anyan, Toward The Terra franchise

Voting for: Team Dai-Gurren vs. Anti-Spiral

Part of me really wants to vote for Jomy vs. Keith here, because their conflict does sound interesting enough, but...I think this was probably the better of the two Gurren Lagann rivalries in the tournament and I don't want to overlook that. It was short but definitely very engaging. I appreciated what it actually represented, even before it was formally introduced, and just how far its consequences stretched in the long run, particularly after learning the background behind it. In any event, I feel both are worthy alternatives and either of them would deserve to move on.

Group A-16
Dark Mousy vs. Krad, D.N. Angel
vs.
Arika Yumemiya vs. Nina Wang, My-Otome

Voting for: Yumemiya vs. Nina Wang

The guide entry makes me laugh a little, but I'll cut it some slack for now, in the absence of any notable opposition.

I am using my phone to vote. When I at my laptop, I will clean up my votes.

EDIT

My votes have been edited for clarity and aesthetics. I was at an exciting baseball game that went on for 14 innings which resulted in my sloppy voting. I enjoyed every moment of the game as it went into the late night hours. It did suck majorly that my home team lost the game in the end.

Okay, quick vote time!

Group A-1
Light Yagami vs. L, Death Note

I so did not want to vote for this team, just out of spite for the series. But even I recognized their powermatch, and decided to not let petty childishness get in the way of a deserving vote.

Group A-2
Brandon Heat vs. Harry McDowell, Gungrave

Group A-3
Dragons of Heaven vs. Dragons of Earth, X TV

Group A-4
Sena Kobayakawa vs. Seijuro Shin, Eyeshield 21

Group A-5
Spike Spiegel vs. Vicious, Cowboy Bebop

Group A-6
Humans vs. Shiki, Shiki

For a series to strike up such a heated debate on these forums on this exact match-up in a confrontation of ideologies and who was the bigger monster... I think that deserves at least a pass to the next round. This battle for survival ended up disturbing me as well because I could sympathize with both sides.

Group A-7
Togame vs. Princess Hitei, Katanagatari

Group A-8
Team Inuyasha vs. Naraku, Inuyasha franchise

Group A-9
Alucard vs. Alexander Anderson, Hellsing franchise

Group A-10
Saki Miyanaga vs. Koromo Amae, Saki

Group A-11
Seishu Prefab Team vs. Coach Daimon, Cross Game

Group A-12
San vs. Lady Eboshi, Princess Mononoke

Group A-13
Shizuo Heiwajima vs. Izaya Orihara, Durarara!!

Group A-14
Edward Elric vs. Scar, Fullmetal Alchemist franchise

Group A-15
Team Dai-Gurren vs. Anti-Spiral, Gurren Lagann

I feel really bad with this vote, I do, because I love both series and the rivalries in both. But, in the end, GL left a stronger impression on me. I remember the ending to Toward the Terra and what became of the two, and a few scenes here and there between Jomy and Keith, but I can't really recall it like I can GL.

Group A-16
Arika Yumemiya vs. Nina Wang, My-Otome

Round 1 Group A is now closed.

With a disturbingly low 21 votes in, the results:

A-1: Light Yagami vs. L stomped Blast/Trapnest, 20-1
A-2: Brandon Heat vs. Harry McDowell over Asuna/Ayaka, 15-6
A-3: Dragons of Heaven vs. Earth over Sayaka vs. Kyoko, 15-6
A-4: Ichigo vs. Renji edges Sena/Seijiro, 11-10
A-5: Spike vs. Vicious blows out Kenshin/Aoshi, 20-1
A-6: Humans vs. Shiki by a nose (fang?) over Utena/Student Council, 11-10
A-7: Togame vs. Hitei eliminates Makoto/Katsuhiro, 16-5
A-8: Team Inuyasha vs. Naraku defeats Kimimaro/Soichiro, 13-8
A-9: Alucard vs. Alexander Anderson obliterates Marionettes/Saber Dolls, 20-1
A-10: Akito vs. Naozumi defeats Saki/Koromo, 12-9
A-11: Seishu Prefab vs. Coach Daimon over Vesper/SAINT, 15-6
A-12: San vs. Lady Eboshi eliminates Exorcists/Noah, 16-5
A-13: Shizuo vs. Izaya beats Sekai/Kotonoha, 14-7
A-14: Edward Elric vs. Scar blows out Claudette/Leina 21-0 FLAWLESS VICTORY
A-15: Team Dai-Gurren vs. Anti-Spiral nicks Jomy/Keith, 11-10
A-16: Arika Yumemiya vs. Nina Wang outduel Dark Mousy/Krad, 14-7

So we had four complete blow-outs and three single-vote matches, two of which were decided on the final vote. I really thought Jomy Marcus Shin vs. Keith Anyan was going to hold on to register the upset for a while there, but the GL rivalry took the last three votes for a come-from-behind win. Have to wonder if the fact that GL is ten times as popular as TtT might have had some influence on that one.

Anyway, next Group will be up very shortly.

Why did the round end at 11pm? Isn't Indianapolis on Central time too? I'll have to remember that, I thought the last tournament I always had until Midnite local time to get my votes in. I voted a couple days ago anyway and I probably won't procrastinate as much also.

This is going to be a very interesting Group. It will be interesting to see how it all end up.

Group B-1

Digidestined vs. Myotismon, Digimon Adventures
i]

Group B-2

Sailor Scouts vs. Queen Beryl, Sailor Moon

Group B-3

Nanoha Takamachi vs. Fate Testarossa, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

I'm going have to go with Nanoha vs. Fate for this round because there really is nothing worse than two people who really want the same thing and have the same beliefs to have to fight each other.

Group B-4

Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise

Group B-5

Science Ninja Team Gatchaman vs. Galactor, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman

Group B-6

Miki Onimaru vs. Megumi Kannazuki, Ramen Fighter Miki

Group B-7

Nabuca vs. Shu, Now and Then, Here and There

I believe one or both of these young men where in another tournament. They seem like they could be somewhat similar to Fate and Nanoha but their experiences have led them down very different paths and from which one of them perhaps will never be able to recover from. I need to watch this series just to see what happens to both.

Group B-8

Inuyasha vs. Koga, Inuyasha franchise

Inuyasha and Koga are both idiots but I think that they have the best rivalry here. Probably because they are too much alike and are unwilling to admit it.

Group B-9
Lelouch Lamperouge vs. Suzaku Kurugi, Code Geass
vs.
Tamahome vs. Makago, Fushigi Yugi

Nakago is one of the biggest A-holes I've come across in anime. The way he treated the people who were on his side...but I'm going to have to go with Lelouch vs. Suzaku because they are working for almost the same thing but they have chosen very different ways for doing so.

Group B-10

Noir vs. Soldats, Noir

Group B-11

Nanoha Takamachi vs. Vita, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A

Group B-12

Capulets vs. Lord Montague, Romeo x Juliet

Group B-13
Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha franchise
vs.
Ban and Ginji vs. Dr. Jackal, Get Backers

This is another hard one to decide. I don't really want to decide but I'm going to have to go with Ban and Ginji vs. Dr. Jackal because they COULD work together if they had to.

Group B-14

Love Machine vs. Kenji Koiso and the Jinnouchis, Summer Wars

Group B-15

Ouran High School Host Club vs. Zuka Club, Ouran High School Host Club

Group B-16

Amuro Ray vs. Char Aznable, Mobile Suit Gundam

There were difficult decisions to be made this round. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people take their time with this one...I would but I don't want to forget to vote! Embarassed

Group B-1
Digidestined vs. Myotismon, Digimon Adventures

Nemo vs. Gargoyle, Nadia: Secret of the Blue Waters
Myotismon vs. the Digidestined

Group B-2
Sailor Scouts vs. Queen Beryl, Sailor Moon

Sailor Scouts vs. Queen Beryl

Group B-3
Le Secret du Roi vs. Revolutionary Brethren, Le Chevalier d’Eon
vs.
Nanoha Takamachi vs. Fate Testarossa, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
Le Secret du Roi vs. The Revolutionary Brethren
I really like the Nanoha/Fate rivalry and the way their clashes really force Nanoha to step up her game, but their rivalry was fairly short-lived and forced by the situation. The Secret du Roi/Revolutionary Brethren rivalry on the other hand is an ideological duel of wits, swords and espionage for the future of France.

Group B-4
Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise
vs.
Shunan vs. Nugan, The Beast Player Erin
Naruto vs. Sasuke love 'em or hate 'em they still have an epic rivalry.

Group B-5
Mink vs. Veena, Dragon Half
vs.
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman vs. Galactor, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman
Mink vs. Veena

Group B-6
Goku vs. Vegeta, Dragon Ball Z

Capulets vs. Lord Montague
Even though I haven't seen Romeo x Juliet and I have seen Zombie Loan, I'm voting for Capulets vs. Lord Montague because their rivalry sounds much more intense and intricate, while Chika and Shito just have conflicting personalities.

Parts of NW and SW Indiana are in CST, but most of the state (including the Indianapolis area) is in EST. We don't switch time zones when DST is in effect like we did up until just a short while ago, either.

Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise

Shunan vs. Nugan, The Beast Player Erin

The rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke falls flat for me, because the only character that I found likeable and cared about was Shikamaru. Naruto is too obnoxious and I don't understand what is so great about Sasuke. That, of course, means I don't find their rivalry intense or entertaining in the slightest. But leaving my personal dislike for Naruto aside. The escalating conflict between Shunan vs. Nugan is well-handled, dramatic and entertaining from the beginning up to its tragic resolution. And it satisfies the remaining criteria. They are duke's sons, so they are actively involved in the struggle for power which plays a prominent role in the later part of the show. That's enough for me to vote for them rather than for Naruto and Sasuke, whose conflict I find unremarkable and lacklustre.

Match B-1: Digidestined vs Myotismon (Digimon franchise)
Nemo vs Gargoyle's an interesting rivalry coming from Nadia. But the Digidestined/ Myotismon rivalry went on for two seasons of the show, had more at risk with two worlds on the line and Myotismon being the more difficult foe for both Digidestined generations to take out.

Match B-2: Sailor Scouts vs Queen Beryl (Sailor Moon)
Never will forget this being the first ongoing anime rivalry I seen from anime when the series aired on syndicated TV back in the mid-1990s.

Match B-3: Le Secret du Roi vs Revolutionary Brethren (Le Chevalier d'Eon)

Match B-4: Naruto Uzumaki vs Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto)
Love or hate the series, Naruto and Sasuke's rivalry is currently one of the prominent rivalries taking place with the ongoing shounen action anime franchises.

Match B-5: Gatchaman vs Galactor (Gatchaman)

Match B-6: Goku vs Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z)
Much as I want to purge all memory of the series, Goku/ Vegeta was one of the first major anime rivalries I got to see and this feud sticks out as the most prominent throughout the Dragon Ball franchise, even when the two eventually become allies.

Match B-7: Nabuca vs Shu (Now and Then, Here and There)

Match B-8: Inuyasha vs Koga (Inuyasha)

Match B-9: Lelouch Lamperogue vs Suzaku Kurugi (Code Geass)

Match B-10: Noir vs Soldats (Noir)

Match B-11: Kenji Harima vs Haruki Hanai (School Rumble)
One of the comedic highlights I got out of School Rumble came from these two goofballs going against one another with Hanai completely misunderstanding Harima's relationship with Yakumo.

Match B-12: Chika Akatsuki vs Shito Tachibana (Zombie-Loan)
I'm anticipating this match being a squash in favor of the Romeo x Juliet rivalry. So this is more of both a mercy vote and support for a rivalry I nominated.

Match B-13: Inuyasha vs Sesshomaru (Inuyasha)

Match B-14: Love Machine vs Kenji Koiso and the Jinnouchis (Summer Wars)
From what I remember of Speed Racer as a kid, Racer X was mostly around to support Speed whenever the baddie in a race was attempting to sabotage Speed's efforts to win a race with no competitive rivalry between the two.

Match B-15: Three Goddesses vs Mara (Oh My Goddess franchise)
The Ouran/ Zuka Club rivalry is a minor one considering it only takes up two episodes within the show. Meanwhile in OMG, I definitely recall frequent occasions of Mara popping up to be a thorn in the side of Keiichi and the three goddesses. I've only seen the first season of the 2000s TV remake of the series, but the description for the rivalry is pretty weak in conveying just how much of a nuisance Mara was to Keiichi and company and I can definitely remark on enough points of their rivalry that I recall from the first season that make them better over the Ouran/ Zuka rivalry. I'll get to pitching an argument in favor of the rivalry later since I'm traveling abroad at the moment.

Match B-16: Saya vs Diva (Blood+)

Hmm for some reason I thought the whole state still wasn't observing DST and assumed Indy made the effective switch from Eastern to Central earlier in the year way before the previous tournament ended. Oh well never no matter, I'll deliver my votes here shortly I hope.

Group B-1
Digidestined vs. Myotismon, Digimon Adventures
vs.
Nemo vs. Gargoyle, Nadia: Secret of the Blue Waters

I can't really judge this one well because I haven't seen either series (the latter is one of only three that I own but have never watched) and neither of the Guide entries is particularly compelling. I'll go with Digidestined vs. Myotismon because it seemed to have more support in the Nominations phase.

Group B-2
Sailor Scouts vs. Queen Beryl, Sailor Moon
vs.
Kira Yamato vs. Athrun Zala, Gundam SEED

Another difficult one to judge. Sailor Moon vs. Beryl was one of the defining adversarial relationships in its series, but so was Kira vs. Athrun in the first SEED series. I find friends that are forced by circumstance to become enemies to be particularly intriguing, so I will give the edge to Kira vs. Athrun - although I don't expect them to win.

Group B-3
Le Secret du Roi vs. Revolutionary Brethren, Le Chevalier d’Eon
vs.
Nanoha Takamachi vs. Fate Testarossa, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha

Simple choice here. I know Le Chevalier well and know that Le Secret du Roi vs. Revolutionary Brethren is a solid, series-defining rivalry.

Group B-4
Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise
vs.
Shunan vs. Nugan, The Beast Player Erin

Shunan vs. Nugan may have its merits, but Naruto vs. Sasuke is one of the elite of all shonen action rivalries. It is simply too well-established and well-developed to be beaten by any less than a top-rate competitor.

Group B-5
Mink vs. Veena, Dragon Half
vs.
Science Ninja Team Gatchaman vs. Galactor, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman

Go with the fun one or the classic one? Gatchaman vs. Galactor gets my vote here.

Group B-6
Goku vs. Vegeta, Dragon Ball Z
vs.
Miki Onimaru vs. Megumi Kannazuki, Ramen Fighter Miki

The RFM one sounds interesting, but Goku vs. Vegeta is the strongest of the DB franchise rivalries and one of the defining shonen action rivalries in general.

Group B-7
Nabuca vs. Shu, Now and Then, Here and There
vs.
Kyoko Mogami vs. Sho Fuwa, Skip Beat!

I've seen enough of SB to know how that rivalry came out, and it's simply not in the same league as Nabuca vs. Shu. Few rivalries in anime reflect starker ideological differences or do it in a more gut-wrenching manner.

Group B-8
Inuyasha vs. Koga, Inuyasha franchise
vs.
Zatch Bell vs. Brago, Zatch Bell

While I find Inuyasha vs. Koga to be the weakest of the three Inuyasha entries, it's still unquestionably a bitter rivalry, one fraught with hurled insults, jealousy, and a desire to settle things via battle on both sides. These are two guys who really, really don't like each other.

Group B-9
Lelouch Lamperouge vs. Suzaku Kurugi, Code Geass
vs.
Tamahome vs. Makago, Fushigi Yugi

I don't see Lelouch vs. Suzaku as a top contender, but when relations break down between them, it does get plenty ugly enough to justify them winning at least one round.

Group B-10
Noir vs. Soldats, Noir
vs.
Sinon Kozuki vs. Dui Elroy, Starship Operators

In this case I do know both participants well, and while I voted for Sinon vs. Dui in the Nominations phase, they are a marginal inclusion. Noir vs. Soldats is not. They should win in a blow-out.

Group B-11
Kenji Harima vs. Haruki Hanai, School Rumble
vs.
Nanoha Takamachi vs. Vita, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A

Coin flip time! Kenji vs. Haruki sounds slightly more interesting.

Group B-12
Capulets vs. Lord Montague, Romeo x Juliet
vs.
Chika Akatsuki vs. Shito Tachibana, Zombie Loan

The ZL duo sounds like a marginal inclusion. Capulets vs. Lord Montague, however, is a full-blown blood feud with powerful motivations on both sides.

Group B-13
Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru, Inuyasha franchise
vs.
Ban and Ginji vs. Dr. Jackal, Get Backers

Inuyasha vs. Sesshomaru is one of the most intense and well-developed of all sibling rivalries in anime. That's enough to get my vote.

Group B-14
Love Machine vs. Kenji Koiso and the Jinnouchis, Summer Wars
vs.
Speed Racer vs. Racer X, Speed Racer

Interesting choice here. I'm going with Speed Racer vs. Racer X because I never quite got a true sense of rivalry from the Summer Wars entry.

Group B-15
Ouran High School Host Club vs. Zuka Club, Ouran High School Host Club
vs.
Three Goddesses vs. Mara, Ah!/Oh My Goddess franchise

Very interesting choice. The Goddesses/Mara "rivalry" is being given more credit here than it deserves, however, so OHSHC vs. Zuka Club it is.

Group B-16
Amuro Ray vs. Char Aznable, Mobile Suit Gundam
vs.
Saya vs. Diva, Blood+

This is, I think , the trickiest one to pick. Saya vs. Diva is a worthy choice to advance a round or two, as it is one of those rivalries which steadily builds in strength as the series progresses and certainly isn't lacking in the late stages. Amuro vs. Char is anime's defining "ace pilot" rivalry, however, and has influenced innumerable mecha titles which have come since then. One could argue, with some merit, that the Gundam franchise is the enduring behemoth that it is in part because of this rivalry.

Group B-4
Naruto Uzumaki vs. Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto franchise
vs.
Shunan vs. Nugan, The Beast Player Erin

Shunan vs. Nugan- They don't stand a chance against Naruto- but I still think their rivalry is worth giving them a vote here. The rivalry is between two different philosophies- that of trying to rebel against unfair rules of the society set up centuries ago and love for tradition, even at the cost of always being humiliated. A choice between individualism (Shunan) and sacrifice for the sake of upholding and artificial peace (Nugan).

Nabuca vs. Shu
I love Kyoko vs Sho rivaly- it's crazy and fun, but for the most part of the series, Sho is unaware of it, which makes it a lot less intense, unlike the Nabuca and Shu's one.
