What kind do you like? There's a LOT of titles out there, and I'd like to help you. But first, I think it'd be best if you told us what you've already seen and what kinds of shows you like Smile.

Here's a better question, what anime have you seen that you like and what about it did you like. Maybe there's a particular genre like Comedy, action, romance, horror.

If you want random opinion, than use the top 10 list by forum user and form your own opinion.

well there a lot of animes and different topics and various types
but in my opinion u have to watch berserk, trigun, gto and escaflowne.they r very good and(trust me) if u watch 1 episode from one of these especially berserk and gto u will watch the other episode and keep watching

P.S: everyone thinks naruto is amazing but to me its normal like any other anime(but the sound and music is EXCELLENT)

GetBackers, 12 Kingdoms, Requiem From the Darkness.

Already completely released here-Saiyuki, Sorcerer Hunters, Descendants of Darkness, Excel Saga, Gokudo..it really depends on your tastes. I often start with the VA's(Japanese). Might sound strange, but people think nothing of going to the movies to see a certain actor. One knows from that actor's prior work what to expect, even someone as ecclectic as Johnny Depp. In Japan VA's seem to get a certain amount of typecasting, so if one starts noticing the same names in titles one likes, then it pays to research other titles they've done to see if those would appeal to one.
Or one can go with creators(like Clamp or Satoru Akahori), directors....There's a lot of things one can use as a starting point

That should be of some help, so you'll have some reference as to what you should watch based on what you're in the mood for.

Two words, Cowboy Bebop! This show is my favorite and everyone I know likes it, even people who don't like anime liked this show. All 26 episodes are awesome in there own way. Oh, and the movie Knockin on Heavens Door is just as good. The animaton is great and if you liked Trigun you'd like this.
The Year is 2071 and it's pretty much about the miss adventures of a group of bounty hunters. The music is cool too.
Others:
1. Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal (preferably the director's cut)
2. Last Exile (It's the 19th century with anti-gravity machines.)
3. Inuyasha (If you don't mind episodes ending in the middle of story lines, before finishing in the next episode(s), it's great. A struggle between good and evil in fuedal Japan.)

Gotta disagree here. The Director's Cut alters the musical score for the worst and the new scenes add nothing to the story (strange how the OVA flows better in its individual-episode format than with the "transitional footage" thrown in). I suggest getting the individual volumes, personally (there're only two, which are bound to have dropped in price by now).

TRSI has the OVA collection for $24.99 with their ADV sponsored 12 Days Of Christimas special. Darn them for attacking my bank account like that.

no matter what genre of anime you like, I can almost garuntee that you'll like Cowboy Bebop.

also, if you're looking for a good movie, check out "Vampier Hunter D: Bloodlust)

I take it not many people like the director's cut for Samurai X, is it really that bad? I agree, the missing music is one of its faults, but I liked the new scenes even if they don't add anything new to the story. Anyway, it's a matter of opinion, I liked it.

I wonder why I never mentioned Wolf's Rain, that's a good one too. Adult swim has a pretty good selection of anime, accept for Super Milk-Chan. Other wise I like it.

How come no one mentioned Perfect Blue, Millenium Actress, or Paranoia Agent?

(The only reason why I didn't list Tokyo Godfathers is because I haven't seen it, yet.)
