Do you think that most anime fans are bias towards anime? That they're so blinded by their fandoms that they think no other animation in the world can compare with that of Japan's? That American cartoons are the lowest form of animation there is, and that even the best cartoon can't compare to anime. Have you met they people, or are you one of them?

I know Im not one of those people. Overall I think anime is better than American cartoons, but there are still some great American cartoons. For example, for me, there are few anime that are better than the X-Men cartoon.
But I agree, a lot of anime fans are like what you said.

I have met people that think anime is the greatest and no other type of cartoons can compare. However I don't think that all anime fans would fall into this category. I know myself, that I like many different types of cartoons (American cartoons included) and anime is just a certain type that I like because the storylines are different from what you see in other types of cartoons.
It really just depends on your opinion of what you think is good or not and some people may get a little too carried away when they find something they really like.

Some are, I've met some and know some, but everyone is bias to some degree about something.
I'm not one of those people though, I enjoy plenty of american animation and think much of it is plenty good, although in generally short supply.

I sort of disagree... i dont think people just like anime because its japanese and so its better than American cartoons.. its just that more anime is targeted towards a more mature audience, wehreas American cartoons are usually directed towards younger kids...... I mean there's family guy and the simpsons which we all LOOOOOVE... to me... its just that anime and cartoons are so differnet it seems uncomparable...

I think that my Futurama DVD Boxsets would disagree.

Maybe for about a year in the mid-1990s until the novelty wore off.
Let'em think that, I say. If they follow the same trajectory as I did, eventually, they'll get jaded and get "perspective" again.

I bet all the bias anime fan are reading this and thinking, fudge why am I so close minded when it comes to these thing.
Ever you get the whole argument about anime vs cartoon. There are some good cartoon, there are some bad cartoon.

Can you write a complete thought? I'm not quite sure what you mean about the Simpson and other mature anime stuff you were talking about.
Mature can mean a different things to different people. For example, in a harem series, we usually have an idiot guy that have a hard time choosing which sexy girls he like, and you might say the anime is mature because the girl get to flash their panties and get into awkward sexual situation, but that seem very immature to me. The things that bug me a lot though is an anime will recycle comedy bits from other anime and anime fan will eat it up no matter what.
Most anime are directed towards Teens and Tweens, and we do get good mature anime from time to time: Monster or Ghost in the Shell. Most anime fan will prefer anime over cartoon, but I think it's stupid to just say all cartoon suck, especially if the cartoon was aim for kids.
There are still a lot of cartoon I enjoy to this day. I love family guy's satire of American pop-culture or those old mid-90's batman episodes cartoon on fox before the lame wb version. Batman beyond wasn't half bad either. Once you seen so much anime, it’s nice to see something else once in a while.:DShort

I enjoyed American cartoons as a kid, but then they started getting all sanitized and politically correct.
There are some very good cartoons for both young and old on cable, but I am rather biased toward anime.
For me it's a depth of character thing...

I was brought up in the UK on a diet of largely American cartoons, although there were a few that were actually anime although I didn't realise it at the time. It took me another decade until I found that I actually preferred Japanese cartoons to American. For me, it's a whole cultural bias thing, not just anime, and it probably stems from my very first school towards the end of the 50's where we had a "Japanese Week" every year as a sort of antidote to the then widespread hatred of the Japanese people. We sat around on tatami mats drinking ocha, I can still remember those smells and tastes now...

I am definitely bias towards anime as the superior story telling medium for cartoons. I have yet to watch an American cartoon that can capture my attention as an adult. American cartoons cater too much to kids. Of course I always love the classic Tom and Jerry and Looney Toon cartoons.

I think it's retarded to be biased. American or Japanese made, if it's funny, I'll watch it, if it's good, I'll watch it. Majority of my days are spent watching the cartoon network and most of their programming is cartoon till later in the night. While I do prefer the story telling aspect of Japanese anime, their jokes are sometimes lost on me or are way too dry or common for me to really think is funny. It's really hard for me to find an anime that makes me laugh out loud like a good episode of Fairly Oddparents does. Last time that happened was when Colonel Mustang confessed his love for dogs. Now that was awesome. But other than that, most anime jokes warrant a slight chuckle from me or a "god thats just stupid" frame of thought. American cartoons have that "god that's just stupid" reaction from me as well but at least I'm laughing while I'm thinking that. Also, there's almost no such thing as an american cartoon with drama so I just don't expect that sort of thing from it. Looking for drama in an american cartoon is like looking for water in a desert so the "I look for drama in my toons" deal is a non-concern. And since most american cartoons these days are meant to be a quick comedic fix, stories are also pretty much non-existant. Anime is superior in that area so I don't even bother trying to look for a story in american cartoons. Only real time american shows have real story lines is whent theres a 2 parter. Anime is meant to be taken in for the long haul. American toonage is a quick fix. In the world of cartoons, american cartoons is crack while anime is high quality heroin. You do one when the other is out of supply. Or if you just killed a high priced hooker and stole her cash. Then it's off to circuit city for me.

If there's anyone out there who honestly thinks Doraemon or Hanaukyo Maid Team are superior to, oh I don't know, the first two Toy Story movies, I will come over to their house and personally take a crap in their pants.
Good animation is good animation, no matter where it comes from. And that includes countries OUTSIDE of Japan and the US.
