This barely qualifies as English. And I can't speak on occurances of Japanese names, but I'm sure that they have their equlivents of John, Matt, Steve, Tom, Dick, Harry, etc..... |

If you're talking about Spirited Away, I don't see why the name "Haku" would suddenly make anyone think you were talking about Naruto. It's like if you were talking about Harry Potter, and you said the name "Harry". Would you're friend suddenly think, "Wait, wait, wait are we talking about Harriet the Spy now or somefing?! I confused!

I remember when Babylon 5 and Farscape were both new, they both had the main character named John. You will find a bunch of Taros, Jiros, Akiras, Keikos and Akanes in Japan as well. This happens in all forms of story telling and one learns to deal with it.
The only times when I find it annoying is when two characters in one series have similar names. The one that comes to mind is Yuuki (Manabu's last name) and Yuki on the series Galaxy Railways. I think there is also a Kei provence ruler (not to be mistaken for the Kei Kingdom ruler) in the Twelve Kingdoms. In the Untouchables, Capone's main goons were Frank Nitti, and Frankie Rio, but since it's based off of real events it is understandable. |

Truthfully, some of you guys need help with English very badly.
You need to watch more shows. |

We used to have three guys named Steve working here. They called it the "Steve Club." I called it the "Cult of Steve." There are only 9 guys working here, so 1 out of 3 is a Steve, sounds like a math story problem. Common problem, somone calling for "Steve," which one? Pick a Steve any Steve. In fact I got a Steve here right now.
I remember reading somewhere, probably another thread here, that there are only 3,500 names that can be used inregistering for a birth certificate in Japan. You cannot name your child other than what is on the approved list. I don't remember how many names there are for girls, sorry. edit, added. Frentymon reminded me of a friend who while aboard his first ship found another person who had same first and last names, plus same middle initial. So when asking for petty officer Stewart, one was asked in return the black one or the white one! I once was tempted to ask for the other one, just to meet the fellow. There's two people I know who share the exact same first AND last name. Fortunately, they had different middle initials, so confusion was minimized when we started calling them by their middle initial + last name.

In high school I had one math class of 20-odd students where four were named "Steve." Fortunately they all had entirely different last names. And I'll agree, "Haku" is hardly a common name as anime titles go. Want a really common anime name? Try thinking of how many series you know which have a character named Sakura. Want a bigger challenge? Name two entirely unrelated anime titles which have a character with the same given and family name. I can think of one such example: Kaname Chidori, who is the female lead in the Full Metal Panic! series and one of the major supporting characters in Koi Kaze. |

Both Haruhi's that came out this season are awesome. Maybe it will now become a more mainstream name >.>

There were two Haruhis last season, but I can't think of any Haruhis other than those two in ANY anime otherwise.

There is a seiyuu named Terada Haruhi, but "Haruhi" is written in hiragana as opposed to katakana. I find it odd that "Haruhi" in both "Suzumiya Haruhi" and "Fujioka Haruhi" are written in katakana though. Perhaps it's somewhat of a newer name, or they did this on purpose for emphasis.

Yo Key; you made me wonder why there is only one character that I have seen named Honda. And I have seen no Toyota's Suzuki's or Yamaha's. I am not expecting to see anyone named Datsun. Oops, there is one Datsun, from Big O. Ok, we have a Honda and a Datsun, any other cars rolling around?
